The Blank Wall was gripping. It was one of those books where I got so excited that I recapped the entire thing for my partner immediately. A housewife struggling to raise two teens while her husband fights in WWII becomes involved in a blackmail scam and tries to handle it with the same aplomb that she handles home management. The Innocent Mrs. Duff hits some of the same notes of noir paranoia and blackmail, but the POV character is extremely unpleasant. You are rooting for Mrs. Duff but only ever get to see her out of the corner of the narrator's gin-clouded eye.
