Interested in many things, but among them sci-fi/fantasy and tabletop RPGs. I appear to only post about politics and the news now because the world is insane, not because I want to. He/him.

1. Each expansion will be increasingly difficult, politically; 2. There is no public confidence in the Court already and it is already just a partisan tool, let’s make it ours instead of theirs; 3. We should be looking at the lower courts; 4. What realistic alternatives are there?

When I was in my 20s (before the affordable care act) I had a stretch where I just had high risk insurance in case I got cancer or got in a car accident or something. I never used it. I broke my finger and didn’t use it. It wasn’t worth it for ordinary things. Never filed a claim. But I had it.

People worry about things they see for themselves. I’ve never seen anyone, child or adult, on an ATV. I never think about them. I see people on e-bikes doing stupid things multiple times a day. I’m constantly reminded. I imagine that’s true for a lot of people who live in urban areas.

It could only be mind-boggling if you lived in a cave and never, ever, let anyone tell you what was going on in the news.

I’ve noticed it seems really big in right-wing circles, at least online. It is also used on TV as a lazy way to introduce a smart person. Personally I’ve never seen anyone bring up their IQ in real life.

Roberts is a racist and fascist who shouldn’t be welcome anywhere. Good for these people for letting him know that.

Still thinking about it. Some individual scenes were really good. I think I am disappointed in the movie not because it was terrible through and through but because it had a lot of potential, for moments seemed like it was living up to it, but just couldn’t sustain it. It was frustrating.

The only answer I can come up with is she is so bigoted, so entrenched in this world view, that she thinks everyone thinks like her. That is terrifying. Imagine being trans and knowing even supposed moderates think this way.

Christopher Lamb @crlamb.bsky.social · 20/09/2026
She is a bigot, but also, from a tactical perspective I cannot understand this. This is fighting on their ground. Why not frame the conversation around gas prices or war or inflation? Why spend money to run ads on an issue only people who are never going to vote for you care about?

I wanted to like this movie but it was tough. A few good scenes but overall a mess.

Also Lobo was in it for no apparent reason because nothing that happened in the movie would have been any different if he hadn’t been. He and Supergirl spoke twice and one of those was a single line.

They had a plot about women forced into sex slavery that could have been interesting but was really just kind of an afterthought, like somebody in an office said “let’s add something women centered!” and they tacked it on and immediately lost interest in it. We never even learned their names.

I saw Supergirl now that it is streaming. It was not a great movie. The villain was forgettable, the plot kind of a mess, the big moments felt forced. The actress did a fine job but didn’t have much to work with.

A long time ago. The 90s. I studied engineering and readings were not an important part of a class, although I don’t think they were in the syllabus for the handful of other classes I took. Due dates were made clear when an assignment was handed out. Perhaps things have changed.

Christopher Lamb @crlamb.bsky.social · 03/09/2026
I never once took a class where the syllabus was at all important or relevant. At most it was mentioned once on the first day. I mostly took math or engineering classes so maybe things are different there.

I grew up in Iowa (no y’all there) but in high school I went to a summer camp and made a friend from the south who said it all the time. It’s super useful to have a second person plural. I still use it sometimes.

Republicans obstructed everything when there was a Democratic president and it worked. They didn’t work across the aisle and they won every branch of government after that. Voters rewarded them. Thinking we need to compromise is the same loser thinking that got us here.

Everything he accomplished has been wiped away. Erased as if it never happened. Is it fair to blame him for that? If he had prosecuted Trump earlier and with more force, and if hadn’t clung so long to being re-elected himself we might not be here. He meant well but he failed.

I bought quite a few electronic books when they first came out but I’ve been burned by big tech companies too many times since then. Now I use my kindle for books from the library and any book I buy I buy for real.

It is amazing to me how bad establishment Democrats are at predicting the future. They are celebrating this birthright citizenship ruling without any thought on how close it was or how at least one justice laid out how to overturn it next time. Can they not see where this going?

What is a good way to find new D&D players for an ongoing campaign? We’ve had a couple people drop out (for non-game related reasons) and need to recruit if we are going to continue. Online, every other week.

I’m not sure there’s any one single thing here but there sure are a lot of red flags. A lot. What else might be out there? What will he do if he is elected? I would be nervous if I were a Maine voter. But they have ignored a lot of red flags already and I don’t think this will be any different.

Christopher Lamb @crlamb.bsky.social · 04/06/2026
I think this is all stuff that the people of Maine should care about and I don’t think that enough of them do care. They have not historically showed good judgement when it comes to the Senate. We’re going to be stuck with this guy, or he will lose and we will be stuck with Collins.

The majority of the Supreme Court is racist. We should say that plainly so people understand it, not hiding behind language that makes it sound like they have some other reasoning. They are racist.

Rest easy Marcia Lucas, I think about the triple climaxes of Return of the Jedi, three different planes of action, and how they never become muddled, with the emotional stakes perfectly legible and building off each other.

The most important reason why Democrats should refuse to capitulate to these illegal and illegitimate acts like what just took place in Virginia is because capitulation only reinforces the belief that politics is futile, which in turn increases the probability that people will turn to violence.

My first day in middle school I was beat up by an older kid. It was not unusual. I was the smallest and youngest kid in my grade and I got beat up a lot. I’m not sure my kids have ever seen a fight. (I grew by high school and then I got left alone).

A WHOLE CIVILIZATION
WILL DIE TONIGHT
My son needs lunch, and I have to put his backpack together, but a whole civilization will die tonight, so I'm wondering if they've closed their schools.
Like, a snow day, maybe, except instead of snow it's
"keep your children home so if you die, you die together" — instead of "well open back up once the plows have cleared" it's
"we don't know if we'll be here tomorrow, hold your babies tight."
It's just "talk" I'm told, which I've been told before.
"It's how the president makes his deals." But I've never heard anyone talk about other human beings this way, and I'm not certain I can look my son in the eyes if we all agree to stomach it one more time.
A civilization will die tonight, but as I zip up his backpack and kiss him off to school I think: if this is what we call leadership then I'm not entirely sure ours isn't already dead.
