Oof. I've given myself a stress headache. I'm currently trying to learn too many things about 3D all at once. I'm going to take it easy, just for a day or two, as I don't want to burn out and ruin the fun I've been having with it so far.

I want to try and get her to change facial expressions via textures. I've come up with a way by using multiple shading materials with a duplicated texture (with only the eyes changed) in Godot but I definitely need to find a better and less janky way.

I hadn't heard of it before. I just looked it up. How it looks during gameplay is similar to what I had in mind and does make for good inspiration. I'd most likely be going for a more low-poly look with slightly more sci-fi aesthetics.

I'm someone who's only really worked in 2D up until very, very recently. I honestly believe, from my own experience, that anyone who's adapt at 2D can transition into 3D better than they'd expect!

I can't remember if I've said this before, but I love tactics games. Final Fantasy Tactics, Fire Emblem, XCOM, etc. I have a desire to develop one myself... ... but with furries.

I've got the SpringArm3D set up. I did try the BlendSpace1D thing in the AnimationTree but it was a little complicated for this simple little project so I just ended up using xfade instead.

I've got some basic movement done in Godot now. I had to learn about animation blending which is something I've never had to do in Godot before due to all my previous games being 2D pixel art. Same with making 3D camera movements and, well, working with a z axis in general!

Importing the model into Godot was a surprisingly easy and straight forward process. It was basically just a drag and drop!

It's not clean at all. The texture file is an absolute unreadable mess. 😅 All I really did was do a "smart UV unwrap" and drew on the model directly in texture paint mode. I changed a setting in the shading tab (I think it was called that) to prevent the pixel brush blurring too.

That's where my thoughts are at. But then creating static objects would take longer as they need to be textured and modelled as opposed to just drawn once. I guess everything depends on how many characters your game has.

I am wondering if a low-poly 3D game could possibly be quicker to make than a 2D pixel art one for a solo developer. Things like animations only need to be made once, saving you from having to draw every frame for every character. But every asset would need both a 3D model and a texture... #GameDev
