The brilliantly named rookie Makaio Moon is saved at the last minute by the Chichester Romans, leaving long time veteran Þórhildur Kovačević to be sacrificed this season. The Wicker Man seems pleased.

An almost unbelievably strong line-up in the wicker man this sacrifice. Some serious reshuffling about to go down.

Ísak Opeyemi is really the only big name to retire this season, although Finn Walton, Fedele Vicente and Nurhayati Keyes also retire after almost as many games (but without achieving much).

Yuki Pokorni wins her fourth bowling orb, tying Nyazik Albert's existing record. It moulds her from Determined to Graceful. Will she stick around for another season to try to beat Nyazik?

A bumper set of tarot cards drawn this week, including a big boost for existing legend Chantha Bell.

Congratulations to the Chichester Romans for winning their 2nd league title, and also to the Bristol Lovers for winning their 1st Colt Cup. The Romans managed to hold on to win the title despite losing their star names mid-season; new stars stepped up. The festival starts soon...

Finally, if we look at WAR per season, we can see which rookies are likely to be elite: unsurprisingly, Esme Coluim Reborn is at the top with an incredibly 13.7 projected wins caused per season; Chantha Bell has 9.8, Lottie Pritchard has 8.9. If their careers continue, they will all be exceptional.

The Cricklet Almanack @cricklet.live · 23/09/2026
The best batter was Smilte Paddon (37 batting WAR), the best bowler was Yuki Pokorni (61 bowling WAR), the best fielder was Kleopatros Tyson (7 fielding WAR). That also tells you that elite bowlers have typically had more impact on team victories than elite batters (and especially than fielders).

The very worst of all time would be Aristomache Devi, who had a WAR of -19.7: they were an active hindrance to their team, and even a pretty rubbish player would have led to 19.7 more wins.
100
The Cricklet Almanack @cricklet.live · 23/09/2026
If we accept that as the baseline replacement player, we can calculate WAR for Cricklet players. The overall best player of all time would be Nyazik Albert, single-handedly causing an amazing 80 wins above what you'd expect from a replacement player. The 2nd placed player is Yuki Pokorni with 74.

The Cricklet Almanack @cricklet.live · 23/09/2026
The "replacement-level player" is the controversial bit. In baseball, it essentially means a minor league player that could be called up. That doesn't exist in Cricklet, as rookies from the Villages can only arrive at set, ritual times. Experimental cricket WAR stats use the 20th percentile player.
100
The Cricklet Almanack @cricklet.live · 23/09/2026
Wins Above Replacement (WAR) is a controversial statistic in cricket, but it's a common stat in baseball in particular and a lot of people have worked on converting it. Essentially it asks how many wins a player's batting, bowling and fielding has caused compared to a replacement-level player.

The reborn Esme Coluim, fresh-faced despite her sacrifical burning at the end of Season 15, had one of the best rookie seasons of all time, becoming the first rookie to win an artifact (the batting sceptre in this case). In a particularly talented rookie field, Esme stood out as exceptional.

Ledia Bergman had an impressive fielding season, responsible for 110 run saves with only 4 misfires, as well as 29 catches.

While not the best wicket taker, Tina Connor had the second best bowling average and economy rate in the league, very close behind Bell in both metrics. She also posted the 4th highest score of the season (179), and was 6th for batting average.

The Cricklet Almanack @cricklet.live · 21/09/2026
Libby Carroll posted the highest score of the season (201 runs), which doubled as the second highest score of all time in Cricklet history. She was a top 5 batter across multiple categories, and a top 20 bowler too.

The Cricklet Almanack @cricklet.live · 21/09/2026
Chantha Bell won the bowling orb at a canter, more than 20 wickets ahead of the second placed challenger, and with the second highest seasonal wicket total of all time (183). She also had the best bowling average and economy rate, and was in the top 10 for batting.

Matevž Jeż had another great batting season, in the top 3 or 4 for most runs, best batting average, highest score, most centuries, etc. He didn't get a chance to bowl for Winchester this season, but despite that was a standout player in the league.

Season 17's Yellow Almanack just dropped. Last season, the Oxford Academicals became arguably the most successful team of all time after winning their third league and cup titles in an historic double. Read it here: cricklet.live/almanack Crickleters of the Season were:

Long serving Chichester Roman, Hakim Haak, is the one who nobody saves, and is sacrificed to the Wicker Man. He does not go quietly, and the Romans are dishonoured. They'll suffer next season.

Some top players have been offered up to the Wicker Man this festival. The teams may have trouble choosing who to save. The Rookies should consider themselves in trouble.

Some top-tier rookie names this season already. Beth Ybarra. Belshazzar Kontos. Sipho Akhmetov. Lluc Bachchan. The Voclain twins, Bodhi and Minh.

11 rookies this season, which means 11 can retire. Elliot Cerny, the Empress, is the big one. Francisco Ostberg is also an original, and Tsubame Aoyama has clearly decided that three Fielding Crowns is enough and it's time to hang up the boots.

After a brief delay due to too much celebrating in Oxford, the festival has now started. The artifact race was genuinely very close this season, with only a few runs/catches in the sceptre and crown competitions.

Oxford Academicals have won their third league title. We'll discover in just over an hour whether they can become the second team to complete the elusive league/cup double, or if Canterbury can win their second Colt Cup in a row. And then of course it will be time for the Wicker Man Festival...

There are 7 active players remaining from the original 132 who founded the Cricklet league; at the venerable age of 36, none of them are excelling this season. In fact, the oldest player to be posting above-average numbers is 31. It turns out Cricklet is a sport for people in their 20s.

Finally, our Rookie of the Season was Matevž Jeż, who had a strong all round season for Winchester. #6 in total runs, #4 in highest score (180, great for a rookie season), #16 in bowling average and #9 in economy rate. No other rookie really came close when batting or bowling.

Mirza Castillo had a strong final season before retiring, taking the 3rd most wickets with the 3rd best bowling average. They also had the 5th best fielding rate. This was their first real season bowling (taking 150 of their 161 career wickets), making you wonder why they didn't start sooner.

The Cricklet Almanack @cricklet.live · 15/09/2026
Sydney Shaw had a breakout season with bowling and fielding (and was above average with the bat). They had the 3rd highest Economy Rate and a best bowling day of 8 wickets taken for 28 runs. In the field, they made 122 run saves (the most in the league) with only 7 misfires.

The Cricklet Almanack @cricklet.live · 15/09/2026
Diodotos Neil earned his place through batting: the 2nd most runs, the 2nd best batting average, the 3rd highest score, and the 2nd most boundary balls (all behind Tamworth team-mate Anas Knowles, who had a strong season but has already won a Crickleter of the Season award).

The Cricklet Almanack @cricklet.live · 15/09/2026
Artemisios Dufort was the other great all-rounder, but stronger with bowling than batting: #2 in economy rate, #2 in wickets taken, #2 in bowling average. If Yuki Pokorni didn't exist, Dufort would be the best bowler in the league. He also had the 8th best fielding rate, and was decent with the bat.

The Cricklet Almanack @cricklet.live · 15/09/2026
Ísak Opeyemi was arguably the strongest all-rounder this season: #4 in runs, #2 in strike rate, and the 2nd highest score of the season (188), alongside the 6th best economy rate when bowling and the 11th best fielding rate. Ísak was undoubtedly the star of a good York team.

Congratulations to the Bamburgh Dunes for winning the league. That's their 3rd league title overall, putting them even with Winchester as the only other team to have won 3. Canterbury are set to win the cup for their first time unless either Chichester or York can win BIG (110+) in the last game.

It was busy overnight in Cricklet: the Canterbury Archbishops won the league for the first time, and Yamin Larue of Dunwich achieved a new highest individual score: 222, beating hall-of-famer Ismayilov's previous record of 215. Canterbury have a chance at the league/cup double later today.

And our Rookie of the Season was Vellamo Abreu, who had a very solid season for a poor Bristol Lovers side. Above average in every dimension, Vellamo had a strike rate of 200.8, an economy of 8.94, and an FR+ of 121. The sky seems to be the limit for this rising star.

Ivan İsmayılov had an impressive final season before announcing his retirement. A strike rate of 227.5 (#3 in the league) with 2,332 runs (also #3), and a high score of 215 - the highest ever posted by a Cricklet player across all seasons. Ivan didn't bowl, but he was useful in the field too.

Tsubame Aoyama had a career-defining season in the outfield. They didn't challenge for the Fielding Crown this season with only 27 catches, but their FR+ of 178 was miles ahead of the competition. Crucially, they made 134 run saves from the field, with only 5 misfire: a net contribution of 129 runs.

Chae-Yeong Beech had a really strong all-rounder's season. #8 for strike rate (209.1) and #12 for runs (1637), #3 for economy (8.33) and #4 for wickets (141), and #4 for catches (34). Beech just seems to keep getting better, and is rightly recognised as one of the stars of the league.

Gail Perez was the finest bowler of the season, behind only Pokorni (who has previously won a Crickleter of the Season award). Gail had the 2nd best Economy Rate (8.06), 2nd best Avg (10.9), 3rd most wickets taken (161), and a truly impressive best day of 6 wickets taken for just 10 runs.

Afrodite Gregersen had a monstrous strike rate of 243, finishing second in the Batting Sceptre race. She also posted the 2nd most centuries at the crease (11) and the most boundary balls (301). Overall, one of the best batters of the season.

Rookies are being drafted: Arabella McCracken to the Dunwich Submariners has to be the most appropriate name-to-team combo so far. I also enjoy Baker Reeves to Bamburgh Dunes - Baker sounds like they enjoy surfing.
