Nick Clegg says asking artists for use permission would kill the AI industry: www.theverge.com/news/674366/... Then maybe it shouldn't be an industry that exists in its current form? For hailing from such "innovation-focused" spaces, you would think they could innovate an ethical model.
“I just don’t know how you go around, asking everyone first. I just don’t see how that would work,” Clegg said. “And by the way if you did it in Britain and no one else did it, you would basically kill the AI industry in this country overnight.”

It's the hallmark of a tech industry dedicated to creating problems that it charges you to solve, a sickly beast borne of venture capital and a lack of innovation. When you're rich and powerful, you no longer face real problems, and as a result fail to consider the solutions that would measurably improve a person's life. Sundar Pichai and Mark Zuckerberg don't worry about bills, or face actual busywork, or real challenges — they get paid hundreds of millions of dollars to come up with ways to express growth to hedge funds.

Tech has entirely turned on the customer www.wheresyoured.at/never-forgiv...
In plain terms, everybody is being fucked with constantly in tiny little ways by most apps and services, and I believe that billions of people being fucked with at once in all of these ways has profound psychological and social consequences that we’re not meaningfully discussing.

The average person’s experience with technology is one so aggressive and violative that I believe it leaves billions of people with a consistent low-grade trauma. We seem, as a society, capable of understanding that social media can hurt us, unsettle us, or make us feel crazed and angry, but I think it’s time to accept that the rest of the tech ecosystem undermines our wellbeing in an equally-insidious way. And most people don’t know it’s happening, because everybody has accepted deeply shitty conditions for the last ten years.

The House just advanced §43201 (Sub. C, Title IV), AKA the 10 year ban on state AI laws: thehill.com/homenews/hou... It's now time to reach out to your Senators! Wondering how? See: 5calls.org/issue/ai-reg... Or feel free to use the card below.
FIND your Senator
- Go to senate.gov > Senators > Contact Your Senators > pick your state.
E-MAIL (about 3 min)
- Click "Contact" beneath each Senator's photo.
- Subject: Oppose §43201 (AI Preemption) – E&C FY-25 House Concurrent Resolution 14
- Copy or edit:
	- My name is <NAME>, and I live in ZIP Code <12345>. Section 43201 would bar every state and municipality from passing AI safeguards for ten years, yet offers no federal framework. It is extraneous to budget policy and violates federalism (Wyeth/Lohr). Please support a Byrd-Rule point of order or vote to strike §43201 from the bill. Thank you.
CALL (about 1 min)
- Dial 202-224-3121 and ask for Senator <Last Name>.
- Script: Hello, I am <NAME> from <CITY/ZIP>. Please support striking AI-law preemption in Section 43201, Subtitle C of the Fiscal Year 2025 budget-reconciliation draft under House Concurrent Resolution 14. It is extraneous under the Byrd Rule and harms states' duty to protect the public, rights holders, and creators.

User Zachary Berger recommends the following script: "I'm a constituent in the congressperson's district.
Al regulation is life or death for a lot of the Congressperson's constituents in creative industries, please make sure the section in the budget reconciliation bill banning Al regulation doesn't pass."
User Karla Ortiz gives information on the bill so you can point your senators where to look:

Call your representatives! Tell them just yesterday (R) Congressman Guthrie added a new text to the Budget Reconciliation bill to BAN GenAi regulation in the states for 10 years!
Hell, point
them to the specific section:
TITLE IV-ENERGY AND
COMMERCE (Part II: Al section, (c) moratorium)

1 FIND your Representative
- https://house.gov > enter ZIP > add street if prompted

3 CALL (1 min)
- Dial (202) 225-3121 > ask for Rep. <Last Name>
- Script: Hello, my name is <Name>, ZIP <12345>. I urge the <Representative> to vote NO on Subtitle C in the FY-25 budget bill. States must retain power to regulate AI for their citizens and creative industries.
