Exactly.
Lina Khan on X:

Law enforcers already have authority to charge companies and their CEOs for creating and releasing dangerous, unvetted, or defective products. We shouldn’t let discussions about new legal regimes distract from the fact that there’s no AI exemption from laws already on the books — a point @FTC emphasized repeatedly during my tenure.

1. There is an extensive set of laws that govern dangerous and defective products. For example, releasing unvetted AI models or agents can violate consumer protection laws. Shipping flawed AI tools without implementing adequate measures to detect and stop rogue or defective AI agents can be an “unfair or deceptive” act or practice under the FTC Act (and analogous state laws).

Can someone more musical than myself help me understand why this version of "Koyaanisqatsi" sounds so strange? It's kind of like its off-key the whole way through. I get that it's arranged for Organ - but that can't be it alone can it? open.spotify.com/track/3X2s3D...

OR: Rogue companies are creating radically unreliable products - and they should be prosecuted under existing law in the same way that any other company who makes faulty products would be prosecuted because none of this is that hard FFS

Our friend Vladimir would not stop at 1989 - if he could get that far he’d be compelled to go further to prevent any future push-back. He wants to create a Russian Reich from the Atlantic to the Pacific.

Honestly, considering just how pro-Putin Trump is, it is surprising how long something like this has taken. I just wonder how long it will be before he starts targeting Ukraine himself.

I.e. the machine is never going to turn the entire world into pins for the reasons stated - but there are going to be enough machines failing about smashing things up in their various attempts that the end result is the same.

I used to think roughly the same - but sadly you don’t need to be in any sense intelligent or have any determined intent to cause extreme damage - you just need people stupid enough to unleash uncontrollable agents into enough fragile systems - and unintended consequences can do the rest.

I have a couple of spare “pre-3pm entry“ tickets for Bugged Out 2001 at Drumsheds this coming Saturday. Would be a shame to waste them - if anyone would like let me know and I’ll see about transferring them across: drumshedslondon.com/event/bugged...

Part of why I don't like the AI-or-bust economy is the constant flopsweat of people on the news who say this HAS to work. Quit making everyone so anxious. Goddamn. If this is the next Google then why are you acting like this? I don't remember being told to buy an iPhone at gunpoint.

A) It's hard to hate Tucker Carlson more than I already do - but he's earning it. B) It's almost impossible for me to have any respect whatsoever for Jacob Rees-Mogg - but Tucker Carlson can even make that happen to some small degree. What an utterly dreadful man.
