We were thrilled to launch our label with the world Blu-ray premiere of György Pálfi's Taxidermia back in May. We love this incredible blend of body horror, black comedy and social satire. The limited edition is still in stock via @filmsradiance.bsky.social: www.radiancefilms.co.uk/products/tax...
The Chasm Films release of Taxidermia (2006), featuring art by John Dunn. A man (Marc Bischoff as Lajoska Balatony) stands naked in front of a green painted background. His body is painted in hues of green and red. There is stitching down his chest and his right arm is raised in the air. Subtle lines separate his lower arms and his head from his body. The text below the cover art reads LIMITED EDITION OUT NOW.

Hello – we're Chasm Films, a boutique home video label dedicated to weird and wonderful contemporary world genre cinema (generally 1990 to present, but don't hold us to it!). You can buy our discs via our friends @filmsradiance.bsky.social here: www.radiancefilms.co.uk/collections/...

Coming soon from Eureka: Swedish noir! I'm very excited about this set, a labour of love from the acquisitions stage through to production (and all five films are incredible – not a weak one in the lot). Features Ingrid Bergman, Hasse Ekman, Eva Henning & Gustaf Molander. Perfect Noirvember viewing.
Box set art for the Masters of Cinema box set Stockholm After Dark: Swedish Noir, featuring A Woman's Face (1938), June Night (1940), While the Door was Locked (1946), While the City Sleeps (1950) and Hidden in the Fog (1953). The artwork by Mute depicts Sven-Eric Gamble as Jompa in While the City Sleeps – he is running with a pistol in his hand. He is wearing a fedora on his head, a sheepskin coat, a green jumper and cream shirt. Blue buildings tower above him, the skyline between them in yellow forming the image of the Swedish flag.

Tell you what, starting a Blu-ray label isn't easy (as both me and @eddiefalvey.bsky.social will tell you) but I couldn't be happier with the Chasm Films line-up so far and am excited about our recently acquired fourth title. You can grab the first three here: www.radiancefilms.co.uk/collections/...

I love this film, it's so lurid and filmic – feels a world away from the realism of Texas Chain Saw in a lot of ways, despite the similarities in content.

At the BFI? Haven't done an intro down in London for a while! I occasionally talk nonsense before films in my native Sheffield though. I introduced DEFA's The Devil from Mill Mountain at this year's Culture Shock festival in Sheffield back in May. I'm sure there will be more in future.

When I joined the website we don't talk about (2009 I guess), Sam Neill was in the habit of following literally anyone who followed him. No pretensions, no questions asked. I guess eventually he couldn't keep up with it, but I always thought that said something about him. Anyway, rewatch Dead Calm.

I wish you all the luck in the world. For what it’s worth, I think 2-6 are all watchable. 7 is perhaps the worst film I’ve ever seen. As you come in to land, Reborn will look like a bonafide masterpiece in comparison.

I’m staying in a film-themed hotel in Łódź with original Polish poster art on every wall and a Wajda mural painted on the building opposite. It’s the best hotel I’ve ever stayed in and the room even comes with a massive telly… but motion smoothing is switched on so there goes the TripAdvisor review.

You know when you finally see a bonafide masterpiece years after everyone else does and it rightly blows your socks off? Last night I watched Ashes and Diamonds. Holy shit.
Zbigniew Cybulski as Maciek Chełmicki in Andrzej Wajda’s Ashes and Diamonds. Standing against a stark black background, he is a young man with black hair, wearing sunglasses, a white shirt and a military jacket. He is pointing a pistol at the camera.

I don’t know if it’s your bag but I really loved the Comic Art Museum and I recommend seeing if there’s something you like the look of on at Cinema Nova because it’s one of the best I’ve ever been to, it’s a cinema with dive bar aesthetics (even in the screen!).

Great weekend at Culture Shock festival (by @celluloidscreams.bsky.social). My pick of the retrospectives the Estonian sci-fi noir Dead Mountaineer’s Hotel, my favourite of the new films the Kazakh alien visitation film Stinker. Huge thanks to all who saw Eureka’s The Devil from Mill Mountain, too.
