Re-implemented a light theme on my website rebuild. I’m a dark theme kinda guy, so I always struggle with light colour palettes. However, we’re renovating our bedroom, and I’ve legit used colour swatches from a paint sample booklet. Proof that you just never know where inspiration might come from! 😆
CraigAbbott.co.uk in a light colour theme. It is shades of washed pinks and dusky purples.

Boarding my flight at Cluj-Napoca airport after an absolutely incredible experience at @jsheroes.io - Thank you for inviting me to speak. I met so many great people and learned so much! And thanks to @neciudan.dev for taking this photo of one of my favourite slides!
Craig Abbott on stage at JSHeroes. Behind him is a slide which reads: 120+ HTML elements, 85+ WAI-ARIA roles, yet many people just define everything as a DIV.

Inspired by @danielroe.dev and NPMX, I've started building a Chrome extension, with the sole purpose of applying a dark mode theme to sites using GOVUK Frontend. Been having my retinas blown out since it was first raised by @charlesrt.uk in 2018. I'm tired of waiting now. github.com/alphagov/gov...

I really relate to this Holborn graffiti.

Windows is not really a viable option either. Building Co-Pilot into the operating system and just forcing it on everyone all the time. 🙃
Two school girls. One has her back against a wall and her face completely covered by the end of a trombone. The other girl is playing the trombone from the other end. The girl against the wall is labelled: me. The girl playing the trombone is labelled: any company. And the trombone is labelled: A.I.

Haha honestly, you’d think he was a Sphinx the way he goes on. But look at him! He was built for this!
A very fluffy, grey, long haired cat. He’s sitting on a newel post looking at the camera, with his tongue slightly out.

Our cat went for a walk this morning.

Test driven development… In Microsoft Excel. How’s your week going? 😆
An excel spreadsheet that shows various LAMBDA functions being defined along side unit tests that say things like: PASS, it should return words in lower case. The passing tests are highlighted in green.

These window stickers do make it a little more tolerable to drive though. 😄

Awesome shot man! I didn’t even have my camera. I got a shan iPhone photo of it coming up over the sea, and then it went behind the clouds for hours haha!
The moon at dusk rising over the sea at Tyne mouth with the concrete pier and lighthouse in the foreground. There’s a steering wheel just out of shot at the bottom right showing a half arsed attempt to take a photo through a car windscreen!

I’m endlessly torn between trying to stay online and active in my industry, and hiding, disconnected from the world in the wilderness. On that note, I’ve spent the past week in rural Spain taking pictures of wildlife. Here’s my favourite, of a Golden Eagle in Adamuz. ❤️ #wildlifephotography
A golden eagle perched on a rock. A very large bird of prey with golden brown feathers and a white tail. It has a sharp hooked yellow bill and its membrane eyelid is half covering its golden eye, mid-blink. It has its back to the camera and a wing half unfurled guarding its meal, whilst looking over its left shoulder showing a side profile of its face, and its spiked feathers down the back of its head, almost looking hedgehog like. The same picture as the previous image, but zoomed in closer to see the detail in the face.

Does anybody know how to turn off the new pulse effect in the messages app on #iOS26. It’s really doing my head in, but I can’t find a way to disable it in any of the usual places. Video description: the messages app showing a flashing effect when you highlight text or send a message.

Wow. Not a fan of Starling Banks redesign. I’d be doing “git reset --hard” on that, right away! #design
A screenshot of a marketing email from starling bank showing their new logo, which is a bottom heavy S which resembles a pear shape. It’s teal on a purple background and shows variants which are purple on purple, purple on grey, and purple on teal.

Lovely fresh Sunday morning with a pop up hide and a camera. Hello Little Owl!
The back of a digital camera. The screen shows a zoomed in face of a little owl. It looks startled by something as it looks towards the top right of the frame.

Yesterday, I was introduced at @frontendnorth.bsky.social by the legend @letorey.co.uk. We joked about how I love to do wildlife photography, but I never really do anything with the photos. So here’s my favourite picture I’ve taken in 2025!
Dave Letorey introducing Craig Abbott at Frontend North. Dave is a a white male wearing a red fedora hat and T-shirt. Craig is a while male with a short black beard, wearing a white T-shirt, jeans and a backwards black baseball cap. It’s in a large lecture hall and there’s a slide on a projector which reads “Craig Abbott” and a picture of Craig’s face.A Kingfisher. It’s a small striking blue and orange bird with a large straight bill. It’s sat on a mossy rock poking out of a still water. It has its back to the camera, showing a brighter streak of blue right down its spine. It is looking over its right shoulder creating a side profile of its face, and its reflection shimmers in the water below it.

Made it to #FrontEndNorth. Already won some Lego. Today is going great!

Why have they vertically centred the dot on the new gov.uk logo? The whole point of it being aligned to the baseline is it’s a dot in a web address? It’s Gov dot UK… Not Gov bullet UK! Awful.
The new GOV.UK logo. It’s a light blue background with white text and a white crown icon. The dot is aqua coloured and is centred vertically between the words.

Next month is Frontend North in Sheffield. I’ll be joining an amazing lineup with my talk “if it’s not user centred, it’s not accessible”. #Accessibility should be positioned as a user need, not a non-functional requirement! Tickets are £75, including the social at the National Videogame Museum!
A promotional card for Frontend North conference featuring Craig Abbott and the text “if it’s not user centred, it’s not accessible”, tickets just £75, 10 July Sheffield. There’s a headshot of Craig, he is a bald white man with a short beard wearing a camouflage shirt.

Saw these photos posted by @jhey.dev. A hilarious reminder of why we always start with content! When we start with design and add the content later, we often write content that fits, not content people need! Or, in this case, it gets printed full of “Lorem Ipsum” 😂 #design #contentdesign #fail

I find a lot of people, even 'accessibility specialists' are unfamiliar with most of the WCAG AAA criteria. A lot of internal tools and checklists I've reviewed don't even have any of them listed. There's an entire subset of really good accessibility guidance that literally never gets read.
Craig Abbott talking at Accessibility Scotland. He is a white male, wearing a backwards baseball cap, a black sweatshirt and khaki coloured trousers. He's talking in front of a crowd and the slide in the background shows a sentence which has been corrected. Uncorrected, it reads: WCAG has 3 levels. Corrected it reads: WCAG has 2 levels, if we're honest.

UX Fails 101… Providing an example, then rejecting an input that matches the example. If you show spaces, accept spaces!
An NHS website, an input asks for an NHS number which gives an example of “485 space 777 space 3456.” The inputted NHS number also uses spaces which shows a validation error saying “enter a number”.
