We went back to the house again. Amazingly, we were able to find some things in the rubble. Pretty much the only things that survived were ceramics. You can see one of my tanukis in the picture. My room was on the second floor, so I have no idea how it survived the house collapsing.

A picture two ceramic figurines pulled from a house fire. One is a ceramic tanuki, and the other is a Kimba the White Lion statue.

Something kind of odd in the book I’m currently scanning: Mirenjo is referred to as "ヒレン姫" or “Princess Hiren” (Hilen? Hillen??) in both the settei and brief description on the bottom of the page. Maybe her name was changed during development?

Well that was fun. 1959 Astro boy was so bad holy cow. Big take away from this is we need more episodes of Akuma Kun with subtitles. Damn shame that show is so inaccessible.

Watching CURSED live action anime on twitch today. If you ever wanted to know what REAL anime looks like, now's your chance. All shows will be broadcast in black & white from the 1960s (with english subtitles). This is either going to be amazing or the worst thing ever.

Any TV experts know anything about Spaceship Silica from 1962? (宇宙船シリカ) 227 episode Japanese puppet show & I can't even find a clip of it on Youtube. It's probably laughable by today's standards, but when I see something I can't watch it makes me want to look it up.

No matter what the future holds, it is obvious that anime fans are an industrious bunch who have a history of doing whatever it takes to access the media they love and preserving some of our oldest traditions.

Currently thinking about the trend of LaserDisc racing games that existed for a hot second in '83-84, a genre that consisted of precisely three (well, four with an asterisk) games. A fad within a fad, an actual microgenre of gaming.

The front of the flyer for the 1983 Taito arcade game, Laser Grand Prix, featuring a group of Formula 1 drivers racing on top of a giant LaserDisc.

The front of the flyer for the 1984 SEGA arcade game, GP World (also known as SEGA GP World), featuring an illustration of an race. Near the top-left is an photograph of the cabinet.

The front of the flyer for the 1984 Universal arcade game, Top Gear, featuring two photos, those being a man waving a checkered flag and giving a thumbs up and a 1983 TRUST Porsche 956 respectively. The flyer exclaims "Exciting! Fantastic! New Laser Disc Drive Game Debuted!".

The front of the flyer for the 1985 Universal arcade game, Top Gear 2, featuring a photo of the cabinet (note how said cabinet is a conversion of the original Top Gear cabinet) and two screenshots of the game's two courses. The flyer exclaims "GIVE YOUR ENGINE THEGUN! STEP ON THE GAS!!".
