Check out our intern Tali's summer project: An accessible guide on #YukonMining review. It dives into where to access information at all stages of a project’s lifetime, as well as how and when you can share your opinion about mining in the territory. ➡️ cpawsyukon.org/mining-process
"Working on this guide reaffirmed how important it is to have plain-language guidance in mining review. What good is public consultation at one point in time, if no one knows what the process looks like in full?" - Tali Pukier, 2025 Summer Intern. "Condolences from Chief & Council
Chief and Council extend our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Jimmy Johnny. We hold you in our thoughts and send our support, love, and strength during this difficult time.
Jimmy was raised in the traditional ways of hunting, fishing, and trapping. Despite the hardships of residential school, he carried his knowledge forward.
At 16, he first encountered the Peel Watershed, a place that shaped his life's work. He became one of the territory's most respected hunting guides, sharing a deep connection to the land. His passion for wildlife led to a love of photography, capturing the beauty of the land and animals.
Jimmy was a dedicated protector of the land and water, speaking out for the conservation of the Peel Watershed. "Especially the water," he said, "I want to see it protected. If it wasn't for the water, we wouldn't be here talking to each other." His wisdom, teachings, and commitment to the land will live on in the hearts of those he inspired.
