Dozens of native timber rattlesnakes (Crotalus horridus) were born in our science lab in August, including one with two heads. 🐍 📷: John Bunnell, NJPC Chief Scientist #snakes #science #rare
This timber rattlesnake baby that was born with two heads. Because it is unlikely to survive long in the wild, the two-headed snake will live and receive care in captivity.

Clinton Road Bridge (New Jersey, USA) This rural bridge is said to be haunted by the ghost of a young boy. Local folklore claims that if you toss a coin into the water below, the ghostly child will throw it back up to you by midnight. #SpookySunday

Tonight I got one of my favorite shots of 2026, and it didn't involve the Full Moon. A composite both taken at 1/40th of a second and handheld. Natural lighting of a single crow watching their friends come to the murder to roost for the night. 🪶 🐦‍⬛
A single crow sits on the ledge of a parking garage as dozens of crows fly in the distance over a city scape and trees. theres no clouds around the city but there is a muted pink sky. above the city is a pink cloud layer

Sometimes the most spectacular skies arrive just before the worst weather. Caught this incredible sunset in NJ tonight, with a Nor’easter approaching this weekend. The forecast calls for serious rain and wind. Nature certainly knows how to make an entrance. 🌅 #NJWeather #Sunset #Noreastert
A brilliant sunset over a residential street, with vivid orange and pink clouds spreading across a purple-blue sky. A white two-story house with illuminated porch lights fills the foreground.

A blue-winged scoliid wasp thoroughly enjoying the golden rod flowers. It's also called the two-spot scoliid wasp because there's another one of those cute spots on the other side. You can see a little bit in the photo why they call it blue winged but it's much more striking and beautiful in person so be sure to gaze more deeply into your local golden rod to find one.
