Read The Farthest Shore by Ursula K Le Guin. The 3rd book of the EarthSea series and another wonderful one at that. I just love how these books (esp 1 and 3) are about developing a healthy relationship with one's own mortality. It's just so cool for a young adult series.

Finished Marathon 2 yesterday and it's such a cool game. Like it's crazy how clear it's a precursor to Halo a whole 6 years before it ever came out. That being said I prefer Marathon 1 its vibes are top notch, and I am a sicko that loves cramped maze maps too.

I have heard numerous times how influential and a great writer Ursula K Le Guin is, but somehow I never heard anyone talk about any of her work specifically. So I checked out A Wizard of Earthsea and I really loved it. It's hard to say exactly why, having just finished it tho.

Having been playing both the og and the new Marathons lately I kinda see how an extraction shooter makes sense as a modern iteration. Marathon 1 is a mean ass game that hates you (thanks Durandal) and extraction shooters hate you and want you to die so it's fitting.

Finished Moby Dick recently and the main word I'd use to describe it is audacious. Cause who in their right mind would put their own text book on a subject interspersed throughout their novel? And it works too it's builds upon the narrative. A classic for a reason a truly fun book.

Wrapped up reading The Devils by Joe Abercrombie and it was a frustratingly ok book. I wanted to like it more, but it was far too inconsistent for me to truly love it. There are elements that should have me loving it but only irk me in their shallowness.

Played thru the first Deus Ex recently and it really is just that good. Definitely deserves to sit up there with system shock 2 as THE imsim greats. Glad I played the prequels first too since I can see how they are "disappointing" but are still great games in their own right.

Read through Erasing History by Jason Stanley. Tbc not for the current moment given its subject matter is not the most useful in our current stage of the return of overt American fascism, it was for other reasons. It's an ok book albeit frustrating liberal in its perspective.

Read through Annihilation and it was throughly enjoyable tho not quite what I expected. Its emphasis on ecology really makes it stand out compared to similar premises like with Roadside Picnic. I really want to read the 3 other parts of the Southern Reach now.
