I'm voting NO on #Portland participatory budgeting prop 26-267. We shouldn't fund services with a public beauty contest. Budgeting is our elected reps job. And if we aren't electing good reps, what makes you think we'll elect good budgets? Even the Mercury says NO […]

Mmmmm, who wants a big pile of disgusting slop?
A food trailer's banner for Bigoli, "Authentic Venetian Pasta," is illustrated entirely with AI-generated artwork, including five fake-looking, unappetizing plates of noodle heaps under the dish names. On the right, an unrealistic glossy photo shows a woman grabbing a fistful of limp, plain spaghetti and dangling it over her open mouth.

@nonelvis It breaks my heart when I hear about the woes of the T. My early experiences on the Boston subway are why I love transit so much and am so happy living somewhere with pretty good (albeit declining due to budget problems) transit.

Godzilla rises out of the sea, his dark, rough-textured head and jagged dorsal spines bursting through a wall of spray as water streams down his face and shoulders. Heavy gray storm clouds fill the sky behind him.

I've found billboards (and huge campaign banners erected on commercial properties) to be immensely helpful during election season. If the billboard says "vote for a candidate", I probably won't. If the billboard says, "don't vote for", that's somebody I'll look at with interest.

I suggest using the "Endorsers" tab over the "Endorsements" tab. Find an Endorser of interest (either because you want to consider or avoid their recommendations), and then scroll across to view their choices in the race of interest. #portland #pdx

@psfshr Interesting. I've taken to buying one of every Matter device I've found at Ikea to play with it. (They're pretty cheap, so that was doable.) I've got the Bilresa dual button and that's been working great, but I never did get the scroll wheel. Maybe a future trip.

My AWS account has sat fallow for years. Got an alert yesterday about anomalous usage. It may have been one of my old containers launched to run in a lambda. I dunno, it was a couple pennies. No matter, rather than debug the problem, I finally did what I should have done long ago: closed the […]

A photo of a dusk scene in which a giant plastic skeleton looms in the right foreground with glowing eyes and a menacing scowl. Teal and green light shines through its ribcage. Behind it stands a dark craftsman-style house with a covered front porch, decorated for Halloween. An orange and purple neon jack-o’-lantern glows in an upstairs window, large black spiders crawl across the siding, a neon purple bat shines in a porch window, and a wreath of red lights and snakes hangs on the front door. Warm string lights glow along the porch ceiling, and a dog stands near the doorway beside pumpkins. The sky overhead is deep blue, and evergreen trees fill the background on the right.

The hardest part of flying home from Japan is adjusting to the time change. For example in Tokyo I got to experience a future where everyone deserves dignity but I’m flying back to a country intent on pushing itself back to the 1950s. It’s hard to adjust your watch to that.
