re: City Connection, a reminder: they have many different processes for porting & reissuing vintage games, some more reliable than others—Muchi Muchi Pork & Pink Sweets are being ported from the existing X360 code, & their other X360-derived ports (Under Defeat, Mamorukun Recurse etc) have been fine

Reminder that despite all the years, Mame is still not perfectly emulating a lot of things, including "simple" games like that. And they're very aware of the fact, since Balloon Bomber is marked "imperfect". But all the retro emulation boxes disable these warnings so most people don't realize it.

I respect a game that's made to strongly appeal to somebody far more than one bland enough to try to appeal to everybody. Gamers also have a bad tendency to judge sequels by outsized expectations instead of on their own merits. A sequel that zigs when some want it to zag can still be a lotta fun!

There have been two occasions in my career where I had to go to war with teammates against mistaken understandings of probability. In both cases, it was because people expected large numbers of d6s to occasionally result in maximum damage. But the curves for 3d6 and 15d6 (e.g.) look like this:
