Alliance Defending Freedom, famous for fighting abortion & LGBTQI+ rights, is using cases involving limits to hate speech to claim there is a "European free-speech crisis" Then linking it to the DSA. Even when the cases have nothing to do with the #DSA It's a narrative machine, not a legal argument

Trump intends to spend ~US$25 million in grants to European organisations, which require "substantial involvement" by the State Department or a US embassy. EU recipients? Not publicly known. US public money. European politics. No transparency. Let us know in the comments if you have any tips!

5/ The detoxification agenda – tackling harmful chemicals – is entirely absent from industry-dominated Critical Chemicals Alliance. It wants these, and more, problematic substances designated critical: ⚠️ PFAS + precursor ⚠️ PVC + additives ⚠️ Benzene ⚠️ Titanium dioxide eeb.org/en/library/m...

"The paper trail is striking. Once again, we can trace pesticide-industry demands into the Omnibus proposals and parliamentary amendments, in some cases almost word for word", @nina-holland.bsky.social , CEO researcher. The committee vote is 5 November. There is still time.
Quote graphic by Corporate Europe Observatory. A photo of Nina Holland, researcher and campaigner at CEO, appears on the left. The quote reads: 'The paper trail is striking. Once again, we can trace pesticide-industry demands into the Omnibus proposals and parliamentary amendments, in some cases almost word for word. While the industry interests were carefully catered for, the thousands of citizens and scientists calling for stronger health protection were ignored. Omnibus X risks locking Europe into continued reliance on harmful pesticides, rather than delivering the transition towards safer alternatives that policymakers claim to support. This is exactly why we need a firewall between the pesticide industry and policymaking, so that those who profit from pesticides cannot write the rules governing their use.'

Banned a pesticide? Under these proposals, it could stay on shelves for three more years. That's the "grace period" offered in the Omnibus, “if no alternative”. Dorfmann and Picaro made it a blanket default, exactly what CropLife Europe and Bayer asked for. No coincidence. No shame.
Campaigning graphic against an EU flag background. At the top right, photos of two pesticide industry representatives are labelled 'the pesticide lobby': Claus-Stephan Schraff (Bayer) and Olivier de Matos (CropLife Europe), with arrows pointing to an Omnibus X document proposing to extend grace periods for banned pesticides up to 3 years. Two MEPs — Michele Picaro and Herbert Dorfmann — are shown holding a European Parliament Committee on Environment document proposing a '3 year grace period for all banned pesticides as default.' A silhouette of a child with raised hands appears at the bottom, partially obscured by the document.

Industry wanted unlimited pesticide approvals: no renewal, no check of latest evidence, ‘forever’. DG SANTE discussed this with CropLife and Copa-Cogeca in Oct25. Two months later it appeared in the Omnibus draft. Dorfmann and Picaro went further, extending it retroactively, as BASF had demanded 🎯
Campaigning graphic split into two halves. On the left, blue silhouettes of lobbyists labelled Bayer, BASF, Copa-Cogeca, and CropLife Europe, with a speech bubble reading 'Give us pesticide permits that last forever!' One figure sprays a bottle marked with a skull and crossbones. On the right, against an EU flag background, a green arrow connects the pesticide industry to an 'Omnibus X' document dripping green liquid, which feeds back to a cutout photo of a man labelled 'Varhelyi,' who holds up his hand with a badge reading 'Citizens Keep Out.'

In her #SOTEU speech von der Leyen did not once mention the unprecedented chemical pollution crisis from pesticides and harmful chemicals such as PFAS (forever chemicals), which are impacting people's health and the environment on a daily basis. Check out what @vickycann.bsky.social has to say
Quote graphic by Corporate Europe Observatory. A black-and-white photo of Vicky Cann, researcher and campaigner, appears on the right. The quote reads: 'In her State of the Union speech Ursula von der Leyen did not once mention the unprecedented chemical pollution crisis from pesticides and harmful chemicals such as PFAS (forever chemicals), which are impacting people's health and the environment on a daily basis. She cannot cover all topics? Well, health and nature are the very basis of any progress including economic, and AI will not impact on this reality one iota. For more than one year VDL has refused to talk to people from PFAS-affected communities - this is very telling indeed. It is vital that her Commission prioritises a comprehensive universal ban on PFAS in both consumer and industrial uses; and abandons the Food and Feed Omnibus which threatens to worsen pesticide pollution.'

This summer's heatwaves killed more than 35,000 extra people across Europe, mostly elderly and low-income. Von der Leyen's response in her State of the Union? "We must capture this market." Sustained public investment is what's needed. A market opportunity is what von der Leyen offers.
Quote graphic by Corporate Europe Observatory. A black-and-white photo of Pascoe Sabido, researcher and campaigner, appears on the right. The quote reads: 'Curbing global heating is not a win-win or a business opportunity and requires tough measures like phasing out fossil fuels. That's why Europe's oil and gas industry has fought them tooth and nail. But this speech gives that industry and its allies a helping hand by announcing it will speed up permitting approvals and slash so-called administrative burdens. Those so-called burdens are in fact laws that protect our air and water quality, and speeding up permitting will stop communities being able to say no to new gas pipelines or energy-guzzling data centres. This undermines climate action but also tramples on local democracy. By the end of this Parliament, expect to see record deaths from global heating and record low trust in Europe’s political class.

Wild idea: what if the Commission listened to civil society and independent scientists instead of the usual corporate suspects? 🙃 While industry lobbies tighten their grip, progress on climate, pollution and digital rights is being chipped away. That's not competitiveness. That's capture.
Quote graphic by Corporate Europe Observatory. A black-and-white photo of Kenneth Haar, researcher and campaigner, appears on the right. The quote reads: 'Clearly, Ursula von der Leyen takes great pride in the deregulation campaign she has launched under the pretext of simplification. Her problem is, that the EU cannot address the climate crisis or handle the risks from AI if it keeps going the way of omnibuses and deregulation. The plan to do a pact against gold-plating is much more dangerous than it sounds. Corporate lobby groups will eye this as an opportunity to bring down ambitious environmental policies and social standards at the member state level. This could evolve into a deregulation drive going berserk.'

#SOTEU : while Europe faces social, environmental and geopolitical pressures, it's funny how the solution always happens to be exactly what corporate lobbyists have been asking for, and they already have more access to EU decision-making than anyone. Here's our take on AI, deregulation and climate👇
Quote graphic by Corporate Europe Observatory. A black-and-white photo of Bram Vranken, researcher and campaigner, appears on the right. The quote reads: 'Never before has the call for regulating AI been stronger. But instead of enforcing EU rules to keep unaccountable tech companies in check, the EU is intent on slashing data protection and rules on AI. Ironically, in her State of the Union, von der Leyen claims the importance of guardrails, but ignores the fact that the EU Commission has teamed up with the tech industry to deregulate the digital rule-book.

The detoxification agenda – tackling harmful chemicals – is entirely absent from the industry-dominated Critical Chemicals Alliance. Instead it looks as if really problematic substances and their production sites could be given a boost by the alliance 🫨 www.corporateeurope.org/en/2026/07/c...
Infographic by Corporate Europe Observatory and EEB on the Critical Chemicals Alliance, subtitled 'An EU process driven by chemicals industry - What could go wrong?' Three chemicals are highlighted: Benzene (C₆H₆), linked to blood cancer; Polyvinyl Chloride/PVC ((C₂H₃Cl)ₙ), linked to multiple health conditions; and PFAS precursor, described as forever chemicals. A laboratory flask illustration appears alongside the question 'Critical for whom, exactly?'

With such corporate dominance it is not surprising that, when things get put to a vote in the Critical Chemicals Alliance, the outcome is a foregone conclusion. www.corporateeurope.org/en/2026/07/c...
Infographic by Corporate Europe Observatory and EEB asking 'How does the Critical Chemicals Alliance work?' with the subtitle 'Industry shapes the agenda. NGOs are asked to comment on it.' A four-tier pyramid illustration shows the governance structure: Steering Board (5 industry groups, 0 NGOs) at the top; Core Groups (industry holds 4 of 8 leadership positions, 0 NGOs); Extended Groups (some NGOs, asked to validate decisions already made); and General Assembly (includes everyone) at the base. An illustration of a businessman stands at the top. On the right, Cefic is identified as Brussels' biggest corporate lobby spender, holding roles as Steering Board member, Vice-chair of Working Group 1, and Chair of Working Group 2.

Civil society is massively outnumbered in the Critical Chemicals Alliance, including by the big industrial, incumbent behemoths. NGOs have been marginalised and face ongoing obstacles to their participation. www.corporateeurope.org/en/2026/07/c...
