Every time “separation anxiety” comes up in discussions at my kid’s Montessori school I nod sagely and fight to keep from being distracted thinking about the 1994 Venom series

Very cool conceit at the start of a Warhammer book I'm reading. A demon intervenes to save the life of a Nostradamus-type from the Inquisition to find out more about someone he'll need to use years later as a pawn (the main character)...

"RKF took money earmarked to provide health care for Black infants and spent it on his personal security detail" is a ludicrous headline. Comic book villainy.

Found out this morning that one of my friends was hit by a car while he was walking alongside a road and died. I was like "how could that happen" and then you Google Maps the spot and you're like "yeah, that looks like somewhere people die on the road"

Reading James Baldwin and this passage was so moving
For this is your home, my friend, do not be driven from it; great men have done great things here, and will again, and we can make America what America must become. It will be hard, James, but you come from sturdy, peasant stock, men who picked cotton and dammed rivers and built railroads, and, in the teeth of the most terrifying odds, achieved an unassailable and monumental dignity.

My dad got Morrowind for free in a PC gaming magazine and had no interest in it so he let me have it. Changed my whole world. I'm still amazed looking back I was able to handle the archaic mechanics as a little kid, but I absolutely adored it and it shaped my interest in both gaming and fantasy.

Just remembering that Star Trek Discovery has the brass-fucking-balls to name an episode 'Unification III' as a follow-up to the classic Next Generation two-parter. In NO way earned that shit but you kind of have to admire the unmitigated gall. It's like if I put out 'Les Misérables 2'

Couple days ago started watching 'Ted' on a whim. Hadn't seen the movies but the show looked funny from clips and I had the NBC streaming free trial. Now I'm on the last episode and I'm so bummed because it got cancelled and I'm absolutely in love. www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YDY...

My sister and I played a street racing game called Midnight Club but my mom made us turn off pedestrians so we didn't hit them. My parents were usually in lockstep on stuff but a rare exception was my dad getting me GTA IV in secret and I kind of treasure that memory.

Not to amp myself up but I’m very proud of my Fey Realm city in my D&D campaign. I’m sure these ideas are done elsewhere, but the only way to get there is to be lost and this city is filled with forgotten things like shipwrecks and ancient ruins. Occasionally it rains socks.

One of my pet peeves are forwards and introductions to book that assume you’ve already read them. I started “Carrie” and I have a general idea of what happens at the end of the story, but neither wanted nor needed that spelled out in the introduction.

Dragon Age Inquisition gets a lot of shit but the mission where you have to charm your way through a ball, fight assassins in the gardens, and decide the fate of a kingdom is peak RPG and my arc in any Dragon Age game. More fantasy games need ballroom sequences

These maps from James are really excellent, and pretty damning IMO And to get on my perpetual soap box: there's a reason these maps also closely resemble our zoning map and, consequently, almost every other data map of the city
Maps of flock camera locations compared to income and reported crime rates, showing that there are lots of cameras in low income areas regardless of crime rates, while high income & high crime areas like Old Town and Potomac Yard have relatively few cameras

I'm digging Lanterns but always think making John Stewart military instead of focusing on him as an architect is always a bummer because the architect informs his cool, unique way of building constructs and makes him more distinct from all the other military characters (like Hal)

Watching a 'The Marvels' to finish up the MCU movies I haven't seen and there's nothing more painfully cringe in these than when a character comes on screen with a built in pause for audience cheering and you're just sitting there watching it alone.

I'm not 100% sure why the Maryland Renn fest pays for advertising. There's a waitlist for tickets. My friends got them on release because we were hitting refresh like getting Taylor Swift tickets, and even then we were capped on how many we could get.

there are no 'correct' grounds for being a socialist to people with a vested interest in defending the capitalist order. if you're poor, you're lazy. if you're middle class, you're envious. if you're wealthy, you're hypocritical. it's all a goalpost-moving shell game.

Praying this flops so we can start shifting back to telling earnest (if cheesy) stories and we can leave the self-referential quip-fests like this and Lower Decks as dark relics of the early 2020s.
