(he/him) 🏳️‍🌈Furious scientist🏳️‍🌈 Mutual cooperation is the optimal game theory strategy for most complicated games. It is smart to be kind. But the cooperation cannot be naive. Part of intelligent cooperation is working together to shut down bad faith actors.

Yes, literally. Here's the US 2024 data. www.ers.usda.gov/data-product... It's one of the central themes of Dr. Taber's work, demythologizing the mental image people have of small farm owner finances. sarahkendalltaber.substack.com/p/q-and-a-ar...

Individually? Most didn't survive. Literally, most did not make it to adulthood, a primary driver of which was seasonal food instability driving malnutrition-induced vulnerability to disease. Collectively? By having enough children that the weight of small skeletons didn't bury us. It was bad.

Even with the hundreds of thousands of children already killed by Trump and Musk's evil gutting of USAID, the worst child mortality of any country is still half of what the best was in 1800. (Angola's mortality had dropped from this chart's creation, after USAID gutting it's roughly back to this)

The worst of the modern world has fewer small graves than the best 1800 had to offer. We can do better than we do now in so many ways, but that? That is the greatest thing humanity has ever done.

If we're sharing favorite calculations, may I share this lovely moment where Born realizes quantum mechanics is a linear algebra thing, and his student Jordan works out the math for it? (Bonus points for enthusiastic crediting of a grad student in the early 1900s.)

This shows a very cool example of asteroids caught in Jupiter's L4 and L5 Lagrange points, as well as some which are in an unstable orbit bouncing between L1, L4, L3, and then L5.

How about this one then? Take a look at Democratic approval for abolishing ICE.
010
cooperativescience.bsky.social @cooperativescience.bsky.social · 19/01/2026
Who gives a fuck what Republicans who were never going to vote for Democrats and independents who weren't going to vote think though? Let's care about the 80% of people who might vote for the Democrats who want to fully abolish ICE, and motivating that turnout.
100
cooperativescience.bsky.social @cooperativescience.bsky.social · 17/01/2026
That's absolutely absurd. The idea that Democrats can possibly reclaim the majority without advocating for the full-on abolishment of ICE, and demonstrating a commitment to that through what powers they currently have, is outright laughable. 80% approval is as close to unanimous as polling gets.

"Defund the police" didn't blow up on the Democrats so much as they deliberately sabotaged any attempt for it to get traction, and that's exactly what's happening here. Schumer and Jeffries *want* the police state. Seriously, look how insanely popular *abolishing* ICE is with Democrats.

This is the essay by the way. As junior level work, this absolutely deserves a 0. What it does *not* deserve though, in any way shape or form, is an inquisition into whether it should have gotten a 0, followed by suspending a trans teacher to appease the howling hateful bigots.

Yeah I might have been reading the redo offer into this. If I were implicitly telling a student that a redo could be on the table if they actual come to office hours to talk, I would have used this language. But they do offer resources and assistance, as does their fellow teacher.

It's also really important to note that Mamdani split the straight vote with Cuomo and almost his entire margin of victory can be counted for by *crushing it* with queer voters. Defending queer voters wins elections. www.nbcnews.com/politics/202...

Yes. But also. Here's him doing a full two minute pro-trans ad which goes deep on trans history and dignity. And look at the exit polling data between him and Cuomo on queerness. www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEvV...

www.nbcnews.com/politics/202... This is also really important to note about Mamdani's election. Mamdani split the straight vote with Cuomo, and crushed it with queer people by 5:1. The entirety of Mamdani's 8.8% margin can be accounted for by that alone. Queer support wins elections.

spyscape.com/article/what... aadl.org/N137_0097_024 You know there was an entire armed protest wing of the Civil Rights era and the Selma to Montgomery marches were not the entirety of the Civil Rights movement, right?

am.jpmorgan.com/content/dam/... A full 1% of the US economy right now is new capital expenditure for LLM datacenters, for which no one has ever demonstrated a single profitable sales model (even neglecting research, marketing, free samples, etc). We are so fucked.

Yes. The extremely advanced average age of congress is indicative of a gerontocracy - a system in which elected officials cannot be dislodged, causing a serious lag in ideological connection between voters and officials, especially considering the demographic disconnect in the Democratic party.

Maybe you could have gone way layer deeper than the Google summary to the Wikipedia page it was referencing, and found that not only is it *much more general* than that, it also applies to things like the **Warsaw Ghetto Uprising**.

I'm pretty sure you're wrong about this. The summary judgment says that scraping the books was absolutely not fair use, and that it the LLMs produced any copyrighted content for profit that would not be fair use, and that Anthropic storing those books beyond the training was not fair use.
