Blackwood has a -long- way to go, but I feel like they can make it work. The idea is there, they're patching the rough edges rapidly, but it still needs to deliver on their vision.

That's what kept me busy at work lately! It was good to be able to work with consoles again, and I'm happy to see possibly the biggest project I've been a part on release on multiple platforms now. My physical PS5 copy can't arrive soon enough 😁

BLACKWOOD: Act 1 is an ambitious, smaller-scale game that fuses two gameplay loops: by day, you manage the DVD store; at night, you're an assassin. The result is a slightly janky but fun shooter with unusual pacing that shows a lot of promise. My review: silentsblog.com/2026/09/16/b...

My initial impression was wrong: those do *not* seem to be low-effort re-releases, but proper modernizations of the original games keeping the style but upgrading the internals! The blog post calls out a DirectX 8 -> 11 migration, and more. Now I'm def curious. store.steampowered.com/news/app/360...

Life is good as Stuntman Ignition is now fully playable in RPCS3, and, unlike the X360 version, it's not capped to 30 FPS - so when emulated, it can reach stable 60 FPS! The game is BC on Xbox One, but it lacks FPS boost, so RPCS3 is the best way to play it.

I took note of BLACKWOOD as soon as it was announced, and now I got to try it ahead of next week's release, taking notes on both tech (it's Unity!!!) and gameplay. When it comes to combat and gunplay, they understood the assignment: it scratches that Max Payne & John Wick itch.

For the original 2016's PC ports, my dev PC had a late Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM and a GTX 550 Ti - so both games ran fine with this config. This minspec in comparison is... quite something. They are unlikely to be "real" min specs, they most likely only tried on a few PCs for now.

Blackwood is advertised as "Act 1" releasing September 16, and I was wondering if it means sequels, or if episodes are already planned. The store page now provides the answer: they are going for the Life is Strange-like model, where Act 2 and 3 are already set in stone, and will be free upgrades!

Just an educated guess, but looking at the lighting here, I suspect NASCAR 26 follows the 25's lead of using a Lumen-less and Nanite-less UE5, and they finally enabled motion blur everywhere; for some reason, cinematics are STILL out of focus, though?

Troubleshooting issues with Flycast turned into an interesting exercise on framerate vs frame pacing. Both these clips are perfect 60FPS yet, they feel very distinct. This clip, using OpenGL, has spotless frame pacing. Every frame is unique, and the car advances steadily.

This almost looked fake at first, and I couldn't replicate it on PC - the code simply adds the USJ reward to the player's balance. But then I checked the PS2 version, and there they set the balance to 0 if it's negative after the reward is given. youtu.be/mGTEIfdajzk

It looks great, but it's really strange that the game appears to have zero presence online otherwise - no socials, no store page, nothing on itch. So far it's impossible to verify this isn't simply a "trailer bait", which I hope it's not.

People keep saying that "recomps are not emulation", then why do you need to overclock the emulated CPU to achieve 60FPS? I thought it's mostly native and it's not emulating the entire console 😎

Silent @cookieplmonster.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
Big fan of the general recomp "devs" going "recomp means we can improve the games!" and "no more emulation!", and then you see those automated recomps that: 1. Emulate the PS1 CPU anyway and dump JIT'ted code on runtime (like emus) 3. Ship game patches instead of making in-source changes (like emus)

On the Steam Machine, Yakuza 3 Remastered runs maxed out in native 4K@60 - that's all I wanted from it tbh. I will definitely check the Dragon Engine games too and their performance will influence my decision whether to get Stranger Than Heaven on PC or PS5.

Yakuza 3 Restored brings back the hostesses from the Japanese PS3 version of the game and reintroduces a few features and a minigame cut from the Remastered version - might just be the most interesting way to replay the game after I beat it on the PS3 years ago.
