I have always been a paper to-do list maker but it’s not cutting it anymore (my list of tasks has increased exponentially with becoming graduate director!)

Go to graduate school and maybe you, too, can someday have a job as a professional email writer!

Went to make a todoist account and turns out I already made one in 2018 and then never used it 😂 Hoping this time I’m more successful!

I need a good to-do list app that I can use on my work laptop (PC) — anyone have one they love/like/would recommend? It doesn’t need to be overly complicated; I mostly just need to be able to organize by task type (color coding ideal!). I hate the one connected to Outlook.

Finding recent books more engaging doesn’t mean they aren’t interested in older works, though. They read plenty of older theory and empirical articles, but they seem to really get excited about newer work for this assignment.

Kate Averett @convergecollide.bsky.social · 16/08/2026

That’s literally not what I said?

Kate Averett @convergecollide.bsky.social · 15/08/2026

I’d love one! I don’t think I can message you, though — can you message me?

Kate Averett @convergecollide.bsky.social · 15/08/2026

Oh, this sounds fantastic — thank you!

010

Kate Averett @convergecollide.bsky.social · 15/08/2026

Not outdated, but definitely on the older side! For this assignment I try to keep the books as recent as possible, as the students find it more engaging.

Kate Averett @convergecollide.bsky.social · 15/08/2026

How much would you say the book engages specifically with theories around gender? I know gender is part of the family structure literature but would want to be sure there’s enough overlap with theories we discuss in the class otherwise….

110

Kate Averett @convergecollide.bsky.social · 14/08/2026

I also might have room for a couple new articles too. Anything you’ve read or written recently that’s under-grad friendly (bonus points if you’ve assigned it and your students liked it), please send your recommendations!

Sociologists! I am teaching my Gender and Families senior seminar again this fall and would like 1-2 new-ish books to add into the rotation for my book group assignment. Have you read (or written) such a book lately that you’d like to recommend?

Her friends would love to take a bit of the financial stress off her shoulders of paying for Saba’s cancer care while student loan repayments are just about to start back up again. But we need help!

We have been sitting at just below 40% of the goal for Shantel’s fundraiser for a few days now. I know a lot of #sociology and other academic folks are on here — can you chip in $5-10 to get us a bit closer?

Reposting for the daytime crowd. Can you chip in $5 or $10?

001

Kate Averett @convergecollide.bsky.social · 10/06/2026

If you’re friends with Shantel, or have ever benefitted from her wit and/or wisdom — such as reading her incredible scholarship, her astute social media analysis of pop culture, or her live-posting of red carpets and fashion shows — I hope you’ll consider throwing a few dollars her way. (2/3)

Hey y’all — our friend @sgbuggs.bsky.social needs our help! As you may already know, her beloved fur-baby Saba has cancer and recently had to have surgery. Her friends and larger community are rallying behind her to help defray the costs of Saba’s care. (1/3)

I’m not a mom, but I am a scholar of, among other things, mothering/motherhood in the United States. Mothering is hard work, and our society certainly makes it harder. Sending love to those who mother today. Imagining a collective future where the work of nurturing and care is valued and supported!

This is one of the worst parts! The other, related issue, is that it makes me feel like a distrustful cop instead of an educator. I don’t want to not trust my students! It feels awful!

Is this position for starting this fall, or the following? Have some students I’d love to pass the information along to!

Rickea Jackson was the 4th overall pick in the 2024 WNBA draft. Wikipedia: In her rookie season, started in 35 of 40 regular season games, and averaged 13.4 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists. She was named to the 2024 WNBA All-Rookie Team. Women's lives and accomplishments matter!

We've seen this before, the implication that this man's brilliant future will be jeopardized because of his crimes. But what about Rickea Jackson, herself an incredibly accomplished athlete!

He was picked in the first round by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2025 NFL Draft, and the runner-up for Defensive rookie of the year.

Pearce had 10.5 sacks during his rookie year, the most by a Falcons rookie since Micah Parsons (Dallas Cowboys) in 2021.
