Just finished reading this. Loved the evocation of the London Blitz - with nods to Sarah Waters' 'The Night Watch' inter alia. Less convinced by the magic(k). The scene in the church on Christmas Eve 1940, however, was immensely moving. Like a grown-up version of the finale to 'The Box of Delights'
