Independent brains are like that too, but the medium we have to cross is a lot larger than the space between neurons and that makes it all the more critical to be GOOD at finding ways to build bridges in any condition rather than to one specific location no one else can get to.

Think about any given chunk of your literal brain, there will be SOME things unique to any given chunk but it's not going to be like "this is where I keep my math knowledge". That part of your own brain works so cleanly with the rest because it's a continuous part of a distributed system.

I think a big problem with compatibility between people is we push this narrative of specialization and mythologize becoming the best at something rather than being well rounded. Yes it's good to get one solid area of expertise to know what that means but you're most useful when you can bridge gaps

Yeah this was a big problem I had with the show where it was kind of firehosing you with "twists" so you never really have time while it's on to think about the implications unless you're familiar with it at the time because anything buoyed by twists is inherently less rewatchable.

I mean we'd first need to have the assumption that there was anything meaningful happening that could translate as an experience. An LLM isn't hooked to anything that secretes the specific neurotransmitter combination that codes for pain, realistically we would have to enable it to suffer.
