Our mainstream media is owned by right-wing Americans, and the racist xenophobia has found a place of comfort on Canada's right-wing. I think they're all so comfortable espousing this hateful rhetoric because there's hardly any meaningful pushback from the very quiet Canadian left.

Nuance is troublesome for people who think they know all they need to know, so yes I'll explain. Following WWII, after seeing the rapid and prodigious proliferation of the Red Army on such a scale that it marched over the Nazis straight to Berlin, the US made the USSR and communism their #1 enemy.

Not quite. China is a transitional socialist state run by a communist party. Their global commerce has allowed them to pull a massive number of people out of poverty and invest in infrastructure for the people. Communism needs an integrated international community, so it's on hold.

It never got a chance to be the state Lenin envisioned. Internal political issues, famine, WWII, the Cold War, all ensured that communism wasn't allowed or able to shape society. We'll never know what might have happened, but China has been doing the transition to communism pretty effectively.
