I so agree that usage phenomena explorable thru LLMs go beyond frequency. In my ICCG plenary on verbing nouns, I showed LLMs can model both figurativity, via ‘source-noun alignment,’ & the rel btwn figuration & syntactic complexity—the latter a bell curve peaking at metaphorical tokens!

One hopes images like this, when paired with the knowledge that everything we burn ends up in that tiny slice of gasses, would help contextualize why we need to move away from energy sources we set on fire. One hopes. Climate communicators should make some hay of this.

Big Oil is no longer trying to convince us they want to preserve a safe & stable climate Now, they're focused on convincing us that the world is only safe & stable if they're in charge That's the thesis of a new @cleancreatives.bsky.social report analyzing 2000 oil ads, exclusively in HEATED today

Fossil fuel propaganda is evolving
A new analysis of nearly 2,000 fossil fuel ads finds Big Oil has moved from green promises to insisting oil and gas are inevitable. (They're not).

Why are Democrats afraid to talk about climate, when so many people already connect the dots between fossil fuel polluting emissions and their family’s financial costs? Home insurance is a HUGE cost for so many families, and getting worse fast!!
A graph displaying poll results revealing that a majority of Democrats, Independents, Republicans, Non-MAGA Republicans and non-conservative Independents/Republicans link climate change with rising home insurance costs.

Two of the most common climate misconceptions I see, even among knowledgeable folks, are that (1) most people aren't worried about climate change, and (2) if they were, they'd act. Not true! Data show (1) most people are worried, but (2) they won’t act if they don’t know what to do-and most don’t.
A map of the world showing how levels of worry in most countries are greater than 70%. Source: Yale Program on Climate Change Communication, International Public Opinion on Climate Change, 2023.
