it just really frustrates me that artists are expected to spoonfeed and there is never an expectation that audiences learn to use the spoon themselves. i know that's something that would be hard to change at this point though 🫠

everyone wants to tell artists what to do and i wish we could shift to telling audiences what to do sometimes. if you liked webcomics that were on tapas, follow somewhere else. learn to use RSS. don't let the seamlessness of apps turn your brain into soup. you can change your habits

the pervasive attitude within indie comics that original is inherently better than fanwork (to the point where people discourage others from creating fanwork indie comics at all) is pretentious and intolerable. i love original works. i buy them all the time. but i fucking hate this attitude

#xfiles take a peek at your coworker's chest cavity thursday

an illustration of Scully and Mulder from the hit tv show the x files. the dutch angle of the scene indicates that the artist is slipping into insanity. Scully is wearing scrubs and rubber gloves, Mulder only has boxers with glow in the dark aliens and UFOs on. he is standing in a doorway that kind of looks like a slab. sickly green lighting is coming through it. Scully is halfway through cutting Mulder open with a scalpel: his ribcage is exposed, and he's holding the flaps of skin with both hands as if he's about to take off an unbuttoned shirt. next to Scully there are autopsy scales, waiting to weigh Mulder's internal organs. He's looking down at her with a fond smile, she is focused on the task at hand but there is a gentleness to her expression.

— For too long, I looked for my own path in your footsteps.

A long horizontal canvas featuring several depictions of my ffxiv character Zhai, an au ra woman, at various points within her story. The figures follow one after the other and are depicted from left to right as follows:

1 - (left-facing) - She is a small child, chasing after a woman (her mother). Her mother walks forward, giving no notice to the child behind her. Her mother is backed by a bright red depiction of the red moon Dalamud, as if it is a halo.

2 - she is a child, depicted alone and staring down at bloodied hands and clothing. Her eyes are shadowed.
3 - she is a teen, marching forward even while studiously writing in a tome, her entire focus upon the book. At her heels, a small carbuncle follows.
4 - she is an adult, standing firm with a summoner's tome in hand. She points forward, directing Bahamut Egi into battle, a look of fierce determination on her face.
5 - she is doubled over on the ground, dreadwyrm wings sprouting from her back. Her scales are twisted into more monstrous shapes, and her features are contorted in distress, as if the power is out of her control.
6 - she sits bare on the ground, facing away from the viewer. The scales upon her back are ruined by open bloodied wounds where the wings once were, and one hand reaches tentatively over her shoulder to touch them.
7 - she is armored, pulling herself up from the ground with a greatsword for support, with a ghostly silhouette of Fray standing behind her. This image faces the opposite way, no longer following the memory of her mother.
8 - she marches resolutely (if morosely) forward, bedecked in a dark knight's armor. She is backed by a bright red depiction of the Abyssal Shriek spell, as if it is a halo.

guess i'm crying about fiction and fanfiction at 5pm on a monday. no, not any particular story, but how it's all of us saying hey, this is what it feels like

screenshot of a tumblr post of a photo of a book post by vexheart book says "borders and divides. There are large, glamorous industries around stories; the book industry, the movie industry, the television industry, the theatre industry. But in the end, stories are about one person saying to another: This is the way it feels to me. Can you understand what I'm say-ing? Does it also feel this way to you?" author - Kazuo Ishiguro, My Twentieth Century Evening and Other Small Breakthroughs
