It's too hard to keep focused on character, team, or franchise, so I'm just going to focus on the joy of superhero comics in general

Usually when I read comics I just "hear" the dialogue and narration in my own internal "voice", but when I read this title I actually slow down and give voices to the characters and narrator. I almost turn it into an internal audio drama Rom #5 - April 1980

My best friend from middle school and junior high in the mid-late 80s had, for some reason, a massive trove of 70s comics. I remember seeing this issue at his house and thinking this was the coolest cover I had ever seen

This guy has kind of an early 70s Super Robot anime/Japanese live action superhero vibe "HOW does he transform from a robot bird into a robot dude? He just does!"

@comicfoil.bsky.social @newwarriorstalk.bsky.social This was my first very brief exposure to Nova. I was fascinated as a little kid by any superhero that didn't have a cartoon, movie, or live action show. It would be years before I'd track down some Nova issues at a used book store

I told her "It's the team Captain America is on" Grandma heard "team" and "America" so she somehow found about a half dozen Team America comics and brought them to me They were...not my favorite I appreciated the effort though

When I was a little kid in the early 80s I really liked Captain America but could almost never find any Avengers comics. My Country Grandma (as opposed to my Suburb Grandma) was coming to visit me and asked what comics I wanted. I told her "The Avengers". She asked me "What's the Avengers?"

Perhaps counterintuitively, when I think about what I'd like to see if Marvel got the rights back to publish new Rom stories it doesn't involve many cosmic characters, but I have to admit "Rom vs Thanos" would be pretty interesting

Have the Dire Wraiths gained the ability to transform themselves into mechanical devices? No matter Two quick blasts of his Neutralizer return the demented devices to their dormant state. They aren't banished to Limbo though. More is clearly afoot then would first seem

Reading Micronauts and Rom has really put me in a mood for Bill Mantlo, especially when paired with Sal Buscema. I have very little interest in Spider-Man, but I thought Razorback was some goofy fun in Byrne's She-Hulk December 1977

(Seriously though this is the new best figure in my collection. Not only does it look perfect, but the joints are smooth, the flexibility is great, and putting the ab hinge low on the torso and the swivel hinge high solves for the problem of the blocky chest armor and backpack)

Thanks! 😁 I'm not entirely sure where I'm going with it, but I'm leaning toward a riff on the plot of IDW's "Rom & the Micronauts" mini, with a little of the concept of Takara's Microman/ Micro Change line thrown in, but I'll see where it goes

I'm watching Disclosure Day and it reminds me a lot of a Dean Koontz novel (in a good way) - strong female lead - initially unexplained powers/phenomea - protagonist computer hacker - shadowy psuedo government agency

The only issue I had with Rom was an issue of Marvel Two In One, where Rom and the Thing fight the ghost or something or Firefall. I could tell Firefall was supposed to be a big deal, but I didn't have the context, so it's fun to see his first appearance Rom #3 - Feb 1980 (cover date)

It appears to be a gigantic..... house? An Earth human dwelling to be specific But is the domicile really gargantuan in scale? Or has Rom been shrunken?

Following the destruction of Galador, Rom, once the greatest of Spaceknights and later the planet's Prime Director, awakens inside a suspension chamber. To his horror, he realizes that he has been returned to the cyborg body

Among the handful of things I'd like to see if Marvel got the rights to publish new Rom and Micronauts stories is the retcon that Rom's Limbo and Illynana's Limbo are one and the same

At this point the internal conflict between the male and female Wraiths hadn't been established I like how quickly the extent of the Wraith infiltration is shown, with Wraiths in the Senate, SHIELD, and high ranking offices of the military

I could almost never find issues of Rom as a kid, but my best friend was a huge X-Men fan, so most of what I knew about the Dire Wraiths came from that one issue of Uncanny. It's wild to see them as just literal wraiths in early Rom issues

Comic Book Coping @comicsarelife.bsky.social · 10/10/2026
I kind of love how Rom has the most humane weapon in comics, basically putting the Wraiths in a cosmic time our corner, while looking absolutely devastating

The size, body sculpt, and joints looks like a 90s ToyBiz Marvel figure, and the peg holes in the front of the calves specifically remind me of the Iron Man line. The accessories look like the deep sea or subterranean armors Is it a kitbash?

I tried getting into Rom a couple of years ago. I bought the facimile of issue 1, plus a handful of other issues, and they were fine, but I wasn't feeling it I just reread issue 1 in the digital collection, and it was awesome I think my old man eyes just can't handle physical media
