Had to share this. Bloody brilliant. Love both Liverpool and Glasgow; social justice is ingrained in Scouser and Weegie psyches. You’re never gonna win this one fella. Give it up before they make an even bigger fool out of you.

Many a teenage hour spent re-enacting this with my fellow Python lovers at school - even though this movie was released 5 years before we were born. Genius and timeless comedy that is infinitely quotable.

25 years ago….I’m sure most people who were old enough to understand, remember where they were that day. Those of us in the military knew the world was about to change significantly; and didn’t it just? Thinking of those that were lost that day and every day since as we all went mad together #9/11

The highest ranking woman when I joined was a Naval Captain and she was a Nurse. Now, in the UK, the female Admirals, Generals and Air Marshals are into double figures. I’m convinced they, and I, have stood on the shoulders of fictional characters to get to where we are. So thank you Claudia and JMS

Seeing Ivanova kicking ass, made me think it was normal for a woman to be in such a position. Little did I know until I’d joined, it wasn’t. However, I truly believe that characters like Ivanova helped women to smash through those glass ceilings in the male dominated world of the military

At the time I had no family in the military, my parents thought I was crazy & that I would do 3 years & leave. Here I am, 30 years later & have been a Commander for 6 of those years. I’ve been an XO (during which time I administered several Ivanova worthy bollockings) & a CO, although never a pilot

Happy birthday to the absolute legend that is Claudia Christian. Commander Susan Ivanova was my OG favourite character on B5 (life changes your perspective, right?). As a teenager, I wanted to be like Ivanova, she was tough, brave, smart, funny and a damn fine officer. So I joined the military at 17

Still get nervous butterflies when greeted by this chap 🫡

Figurehead of Sir Walter Raleigh at the entrance to HMS RALEIGH in Torpoint. The figurehead is of a bearded man with an orange doublet and an ermine edged cloak. HMS RALEIGH is where all initial training for the Royal Navy takes place.

A black submarine sits afloat in front of a jetty

A bearded man (Bruce Boxleitner as Capt John Sheridan) in black uniform and a cut on his right cheek, sits in the Captain’s chair of the Earth Alliance Ship Agamemnon. His face is serious as he contemplates ramming his ship into a planetary defence satellite.

Happy birthday to Bruce Boxleitner. As Capt John Sheridan in Babylon 5, he uttered the line ‘I wanted to serve something bigger than I was. Make a difference somewhere, somehow.’ It sounds bonkers, but this sentiment set me on the path I have lived for 29 years. Thank you Bruce 🫡 many happy returns

Bruce Boxleitner as Captain John Sheridan in Babylon 5 stands leaning on the railing of the observation dome or command and control as it is also known. Behind him is a bank of lcd displays and brightly coloured buttons and a circular window looking out to space. Captain Sheridan wears the blue and brown uniform of the Earth Alliance.
