When my cat got radioactive iodine for hyperthyroidism, they kept her for 3 days in a lead-lined room at the veterinary hospital, sent her home for 6 weeks’ confinement in the basement. Precautions included limiting human interaction to <5 minutes a day and hazmat disposal of litter.
