Very excited to share our new paper led with Will de Cothi and @caswell.bsky.social! 🐭🧠 www.nature.com/articles/s41... 1. The subiculum has spatial representations which broadly align to environmental features (boundary cells, corner cells) or patterns of behaviour (axis of travel cells).

Very excited to see this out — real teamwork, led by @laurenb29.bsky.social & Will de Cothi with @lgiocomo.bsky.social, @colinlever.bsky.social, Laurenz Muessig, Fábio Rodrigues, Francesca Cacucci, Tom Wills, Yanjun Sun & Steven Poulter. In Nature Comms: www.nature.com/articles/s41467-026-76686-y

Delighted to see this paper out led by Peer Wulff’s group. We were very happy to contribute to this fascinating work! In brief, Peer and his team discovered excitatory PV-positive neurons in the subiculum (SUB) that very selectively project to the AV or MB. Check it out! bsky.app/profile/cp-c...

Fantastic study by Mark & team. Thalamic projecting neurons in the subiculum have a peculiar morphology and form (very) long lasting memories of objects. Let’s now go and check what they do during sleep 😏

delighted to share our work revealing a new type of excitatory hippocampal neuron we call the "ovoid cell", which has really exquisite properties relative to adjacent pyramidal cells! superb work of first-author @adriennekinman.bsky.social and many others in the lab www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Atypical hippocampal excitatory neurons express and govern object memory - Nature Communications
Pyramidal cells are classically thought to comprise the excitatory output of the subiculum. Here, the authors show the existence of “ovoid cells”, excitatory subiculum neurons with specialized gene ex...

New preprint from the lab and great work by Fei Wang. We show how subiculum trace vector cells can be modeled consistent with known effects in CA1. Traces are driven by a mismatch learning rule to keep associative memories in line with experience. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Dynamic updating of cognitive maps via traces of experience in the subiculum
In the classical view of hippocampal function, the subiculum is assigned the role as the output layer. In spatial paradigms, some subiculum neurons manifest as so-called boundary vector cells (BVCs), ...
