I don’t care if Imbibe doesn’t grow any bigger. I’m happy. We’re small but very viable and it’s gone beyond my aspirations. I do wish the idea of how we’re run got more traction and find it frustrating it hasn’t. If we can give up 4% of all our income, large scale businesses could easily do similar.

Made a donation in Panama last year. It’s where best coffee in world comes from and we’re one of very few roasters in Europe to sell it. The major donar behind the charity was Hacienda La Esmeralda, the most famous coffee farm in the world. Got a kick out of fact they’ve put us in their book.

Aidan and Paul asked if they could run brewing classes. Not something I want to do so told them it can be their own little business. They’ll keep the cash. It’ll be under Imbibe’s name as will save them money in insurance, accounting fees etc. They’ll be great at this. Keep an eye on our site.

It's very possible to sell a very good product at fair prices whilst paying staff well and financially supportings things that are worth supporting. Over 8 years we've gone from giving up 1% of all our revenue to 4%. If we as a business of 6 can do it, corporate giants could easily do same.

Ethical or supposedly ethical businesses can seem complicated or short on detail when you scratch the surface of promises. What we do is really simple. We give up 4% of all our income which has been over 30%of profits in each of last 4 years. We're not a social enterprise or charity.

Feels like a day for this #painting. "Poolbeg, Kayakers, Sunlight" came out of monthly cycles past Scotsmans Bay where I would invariably stop and enjoy the views across Dublin Bay and wait for kayakers to paddle into my picture. #SpeirGhorm #ArtYear #Scape
Landscape format in acrylics on canvas. Bottom half is sea in dots of greens, blues, purples. 2 kayakers, bottom right of center, enter sunlight on water, rendered in added dots of whites and yellows and pale colours, that guides them towards the twin smokestack chimneys which have red and white bands on their top halves and muted grey-green on their lower halves. Across the middle of the painting are bands of pale blue for the distant tree/building line, then the rear of Dun Laoghaire's stone East Pier rendered in mid-blue with some light blue stone work and the odd orange stone, and immediately below it is the band for the pier's protective rip-rap rendered in dark blue with light blue and orange rocky details. The left kayak is light blue and right one is yellow. Both figures have orange life-jackets and orange paddles but other wise they are dark silhouetted against the dappled sunlight on the water. The sky is a painterly yellow. Signed bottom left in red, Liam Daly
