Success. Found an existing short story I can tighten up and work on for sept SciFi Reading Hour (thurs sept 10! Mark you calendar) so that I can continue working on the longer cyberpunk piece that is currently eating my brain.

And then I spent the night 6 and seam ripping the same two seams ten times. But also I remembered that I’m making the summer dress out of Buy Nothing curtains like I’m Maria straight out of the nunnery, and I feel a bit better.

I get compliments on how organized I am, what a good producer I am, but truly I am driven by pure panic. I just ran around trying to remember a crucial detail that I apparently wrote down NOWHERE. Luckily, the brain did not fail me. Now write it down, Cole.

I’m feeling really good right now, creative pursuits are rolling along, and even when I’m out running errands, I run into two people I’d like to collaborate with, who are at least happy to see me. Emails going out, spreadsheets being made, now to find a minute to sit and write a little more.

TFW you lay down for a nap because you’re suddenly exhausted but then you can’t sleep because you figured out the plot of the cyberpunk (transhumanist?) thing you are writing.

I'm really good at the other end of parasocial relationships! I'm not going to put you on a pedestal, but I'm going to appreciate your work and assume you are a normal human being with flaws and worries and annoyances and just day to day stuff. Me? Don't perceive me, just come to my show!

Doing a bunch of be-a-real-writer related work today. Sending out emails to writers and musicians for my show, making notes for some writing I'm working on, researching markets for the short stories that are ready to submit, making a blue moonthly appearance on social media.... hi.

I don't know, y'all. I've been busy. We climbed some mountains in Colorado, then we climbed some mountains in Scotland. I took notes for a community meeting. I sewed my bestie a cape. I had a root canal. Tomorrow I've got a show at the BLB, Thursday I've got a show at Kieran's. I will see you soon.

Tip I learned years ago from a longtime organizer who is also an attorney: If you are not sure if a person approaching you is a cop, and you do not feel safe, drive to the nearest *fire department* and call 911 and tell them (don't ask) that you're stopping for the cop at a FD. Here's why.

Oh, but also, make sure you've penciled this in: our June show is June 1, doors at 6, show at 7. $10 in advance/$15 at the door, the check I get from the BLB gets an even three way split between me and the other performers.

Text: Cole Sarar's SciFi Reading Hour, June 1, 2025 7:00pm Featuring Khary Jackson and Jasmine Castaneda. The text is over a pencil sketch of an astronaut's helmet discarded on a grassy hill, a few daisies or black-eyed susans pushed over under the weight of the helmet. There are a few hills in the distance, and wispy clouds far far out.

My biggest downfall is that I cannot find it within myself to be consistent on social media anymore, which is probably not great for an arts organizer. Can I frontload that work for next season? Probably!

Today I sent out tech requests to BLB for our June show, and started reaching out to potential performers for next season's shows. If you're curious how I choose who I invite, I look at my friends lists, I think about people whose work has affected me, and I get recs from other performers.

It’s birthday weekend. I have the excuse that I get to treat all of my various friends groups to cakes. For the gaming crew, a coconut earl grey cake. Probably will throw a glaze on it when it’s cooled.

A golden bundt cake sits on a robins egg blue plate, the counter has dirty measuring cups, a lemon, a tea ball, and a mixing bowl.
