It’s not much but my experiment of using cat litter to air layer a hornbeam actually worked! You can see the first root peaking through the plastic. Wild. 🌱 #gardening #bonsai

I’ve had this beech in my front #garden for 4 years and it’s grown maybe 6”. (I think the heavy clay and dry soil is too much.) Anyone have any tips for digging this out and transforming it into a #bonsai? I’ve worked on a few smaller trees but nothing this size.

Yeah they’re kind of everywhere. Their range is southern Canada to Central America. Kind of astonishing.

Yeah I realize they aren't native to the midwest US, but they are ridicuously hardy, don't really spread, and act as a loely eye catching and different looking plant in the garden.

Good to know. I got it as a tiny sapling and it’s still getting established after two years. Doesn’t seem to require any care though. I mostly leave this side walk strip garden to fend for itself. :)

Just saw this poppy near my apartment building, so bright it took my breath away. I immediately took a photo. that’s when memory came in: mom loved to send me photos like this of flowers she took , it was her way of saying hi, felt lame to me when I was younger, now

@jamesreeves.co I've been listening with Spite on MacOS for a few days and I'm loving it. I don't quite follow how I'm supposed to use it on my iOS device as well - should I be keeping my local music files in an iCloud folder - and then pointing my iOS installation of Spite to that folder? Thanks!

Wild, the original looks perfectly decent. I wish the pipeline for editing photos was simpler when using a real camera. I dislike the tedious process of transferring photos off my camera, dealing with enormous raw files in whatever cursed photo editor is available and managing enormous libraries.
