Have the Dominators received any buffs in your test build?

Bello is a beast. Definitely a critter that leads to short games, for better or worse.

🍽️Fried lion's mane skewers seasoned with garam masala and chili. My first time cooking with the mushroom. Quite delicious. Next time I'll add a bit more batter to bind everything together and crisp it up nicely. Spud does not approve of the resemblance.🍽️

I'm sold. You haven't steered me wrong on a book recommendation since The Gone World. Looking forward to cracking this one open.

Fifth season vibes are back.

Also, sand down your calluses to prevent them from being torn off. Newbie calluses are really only on the top layers of your skin and are super prone to tearing off. Sanding them down so they're smoother and more flexible helps keep them attached to your hands.

Some unsolicited advice from a long time climber - spend some of your recovery time doing antagonist exercises with your fingers like rice bucket finger extensions. Just one side of your finger musculature getting vastly stronger very quickly can cause a lot of problems.

I think this is your best short story since A Kiss With Teeth. Wonderful work, a lovely read.

Interesting. Is this just dependent on High/Mid/Low tech? Or is it on a per ship basis? I'm imagining that phase ships probably carry a premium, on account of The Horror.

Hell yeah, I love it when folks flesh out the Union civil war like this. Give me those messy Spanish and Russian Civil War parallels, yesss

Interesting Threat-y vibes on the upper right in the second pic. Always fun seeing how ideas that don't get used initially still percolate through and find their use elsewhere.

Two things immediately jump out at me: the land count is extremely low at 35 including MDFCs. I'd shoot for at least 38. Second, you don't really need any of your artifact ramp. You're not ramping to anything - you probably would rather just curve out. Thankfully, the problems solve each other.

I loved your take on golems in this comic. Wonderful mix of the old and new.

A very solid inclusion in a Bello, Bard of the Brambles commander list. Outside of that... definitely not going to win any power rankings.

🍽️ My first attempt at a bread tahdig on some herb rice. Very nice result overall, although I'm absolutely going to add some fenugreek the next time I try it. 🍽️

Glanced at this album cover and immediately thought "Oh, cool Caves of Qud fanart. Go off, Moon King." Now I HAVE to listen to it.

I gotta wonder - what does Sever sound like? Deep and resonant, echoing inside their body? Inhuman, like metal sliding on metal? Just like a person in armor, Alphonse Elric -style?

It's not easy being incredibly fluffy and gorgeous, but Saoirse makes it seem that way. We had a very good time playing fetch and chasing squirrels at the park today.

The same fluffy golden laying down. A fetching smudge of dirt graces her paw and forehead.

Preordered! I always love reading your book recommendations. The best part is that after I'm done reading them I pass them on to my dad, hastening along his transition from a History Dad into a Anarchist History Dad.

Describe your favorite games poorly: - Playing campfire songs around the ashes of a dead universe with your besties. - Automation: the solution to (and cause of) all of life's problems. - Working through centuries of space trauma with the help of puppets and a little ultraviolence.

I'd try to snag a used undergraduate text from an engineering fluid dynamics class. I learned with White and Xue's text back in the day. Looks like it's up to its ninth edition now? Should be available for well south of $100. As long as you have a foundation in calculus and physics, you're good.

🍽️ Persian food this Christmas! My favorite. Tahdig rice, a sabi platter, naz khatoun, flatbread, and chicken stuffed with basil, walnuts, onions, and prunes. Dessert is saffron rosewater rice pudding. 🍽️

A very Christmasy platter with a spread of chicken, herbs, eggplant dip above a pile of crispy rice.

This is absolutely the kind of part machinists point to when they complain about engineers. Would love to see what kind of tolerances they want on it.

What were your first four commander decks? I was kind of a pain in the ass to play against in my early years, ngl. I try to play more interactive, aggressive strategies nowadays, instead of just competing to take the most game actions.

This is a cool idea! My recent hack for super easy unbroken tahdigs is to do the finishing step in a nonstick frying pan instead of a dutch oven. It's definitely easier, but it doesn't distribute heat the same way and the tahdig layer can be kind of two-dimensional. I'll try your trick next time!

Hayley Klug @codapdx.bsky.social · 06/11/2025

Nothing's more satisfying than flipping over the pot at the end and getting a beautiful tahdig layer.

I use Naz Deravian's recipe from Bottom of the Pot as my baseline. A little fussier and in-depth than some of the other recipes I've seen online, but it comes out beautifully. bottomofthepot.com/rice-and-the...

Nothing tops persian rice with the crispy layer from the bottom of the pot. A little tricky to pull off well, but when you get the hang of it you can iterate on it a dozen different delicious ways.

Have you ever read Ben Fleuter's The Sword Interval? The early arcs nail the "monster hunting out of the back of a car" vibe hard, and even up to the final act there's a lot of that DNA still in the mix.
