some experiences are not Universal, but this bit from an article absolutely Is for me and a lot of my abc cohorts lmao

Quote from Electric Lit article "My Husband Swears Our Baby is Out to Murder Us": "There's all this implicit nonsense that you're just supposed to get. It stems from imperial China: the emperor will ask his officials what they want as a reward for performing some great deed. And the official is supposed to say some noble shit like 'nothing, ding service for the country is good enough.' And if you're ever honest about wanting or disliking something, you die." I think the diatribe's over but he keeps going: "That's my mom: she'll say 'oh, no need to think about visiting me when planning your trip to Japan.' And then she'll get upset when I didn't think of her while planning the trip."

coloured fanart of wenren e and yin hanjiang, from the danmei novel ‘devil venerable also wants to know’ written by cyan wings. wenren e is sitting on silver throne with his interlocking hands resting on his legs. yin hanjiang, on the other hand, stands right behind him glancing sideways at a mysterious shadow of wenren e. there are three branches of a ginkgo tree to their right, and some of its yellow leaves are spowly falling in front of them.

FYI, from Toocheke. They added a Tapas migration feature.

A screenshot of an email that says

Import Your Tapas.io Comics Into WordPress
You may have seen the news about Tapas shutting down. If you or anyone you know publish there, you’re probably wondering what happens to all of your comics and years of work.

We’ve just added a new import feature to Toocheke Companion (available in version 2.23+) that can move an entire Tapas series into WordPress for you — including episodes, images, thumbnails, and original publish dates.

It keeps everything in order, so you don’t have to manually copy and paste hundreds of pages.

There's already a lot of dissecting into the wording here, but for me the attempted observation of "Well, they wouldn't do it like this for a het couple" might be the single most obvious example of the fallacies at play. Like, this is *normal* romance writing in JP media.

This is seismic news for fisheries scientists. Northern cod is *the* iconic symbol of total fisheries collapse due to overfishing (and other factors) *and* the iconic symbol of a complete failure to recover for decades afterwards. This is like announcing the complete recovery of bison on land.

Visual example: Let's say it's VERY important that your readers notice a key getting stolen by a mouse. You do NOT want your readers to miss this as it plays a huge role in the plot later. Will some people notice the mouse in the first example? Sure. But EVERYONE will notice in the second.

Two simple cartoon panels both showing one person worriedly asking "have you seen my key?" and the other responding "no, sorry". In the first panel the characters are framed in the foreground and a mouse carrying a key is a smaller element of the background, off to the side. In the second example, the mouse and key are framed in the foreground from a perspective close to the ground, while the two human characters are in the background.

also one of the best things about coyote vs. acme is that it is 100% sincere. never undercuts an emotional moment, takes its premise dead serious, treats coyote's grievances as unquestionably legitimate and the existence of cartoons as a normal thing there's no reason to make fun of

one of my biggest gripes with the persona series is that you'll have character who's dissatisfied with their lot in life, and then they grow up and get to know themselves better, only for the end result to be exactly what they'd rebelled against in the first place (but they "accept" it now)
