"And for NGOs, coalitions and donors to continue our partnerships and projects. We must remember our values. We need to protect the ICC and the Palestinian human rights movement, and demand full criminal accountability for Israel’s genocide of the Palestinian People" - @alhaq.bsky.social.

Coalition for the International Criminal Court @coalitionfortheicc.org · 27/03/2026
Speakers were clear: coordinated, non-discriminatory support from States for all sanctioned individuals and entities is key. Without it, the International Criminal Court, human rights defenders and the wider accountability ecosystem risk being unable to operate independently and effectively.

As a result of the global reliance on US tech and financial systems, "sanctions have extreme extra-territorial reach, way beyond the US. We are talking about #HumanRightsDefenders treated like perpetrators of mass atrocities” - Zoé Paris, from the @coalitionfortheicc.org.
110
Coalition for the International Criminal Court @coalitionfortheicc.org · 27/03/2026
Raji Sourani from the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights warned that sanctions are designed to erase the voices of victims by paralysing accountability efforts globally: "That’s why the states who still believe in the rule of law and accountability must stand and defend these principles."
120
Coalition for the International Criminal Court @coalitionfortheicc.org · 27/03/2026
As stressed by the speakers, the impacts are not merely administrative as sanctions “strike at the very foundation of the rule of law” and are “intended to intimidate those defending victims’ rights, as well as victims themselves”, as underlined by @almezan.bsky.social's Issam Younis.
110
Coalition for the International Criminal Court @coalitionfortheicc.org · 27/03/2026
“The personal impact of sanctions is impairing”, stressed Francesca Albanese, UN Special Rapporteur of the oPt. “You cannot function as an individual anymore. You are a dependent. I am checked everywhere I go because the OFAC sanctions create a sense of culpability around us."
110
Coalition for the International Criminal Court @coalitionfortheicc.org · 27/03/2026
These measures have real-world consequences: ‼️ “Within days, banks cut off our access. US funding stopped overnight. Staff could not be paid. Our advocacy and litigation were affected, bringing many work streams to a halt" - underlined Dr Susan Power, from @alhaq.bsky.social.
110
Coalition for the International Criminal Court @coalitionfortheicc.org · 27/03/2026
“Such measures constitute a direct assault on the ICC's independence and ultimately impair victims’ right to justice. Continued attempts by the US to isolate the ICC and unjustifiably punish those in support of it set a dangerous precedent” - stated @almezan.bsky.social's Issam Younis.
