The only way you can find out how good you are is by giving yourself a chance. Most of us excuse, rationalize, or give up before we've even given ourselves a shot. Put yourself in position to do something. Don't obsess over whether it'll work out or not. Give yourself a shot.

Being 80 percent 100 percent of the time is better than being 100 percent 50 percent of the time. Consistency trumps occasional perfection.

After 100 years of experimenting, modern coaching has settled on that even the best of the best athletes can only handle ~2-3 hard workouts a week. If you're trying to do more than this as an average athlete, you might ask why you think you can handle more than the pros?

If you're struggling in a workout or race, break it down. Get to the next lap, tree, turn, whatever. Give yourself bite size chunks that you can manage. You'd be surprised how long you can keep bargaining with yourself to make it to the next landmark.

Endurance sports are about figuring out how to get your body as close to complete exhaustion as possible. Yet, endurance athletes seldom go to that place in practice. It's very rare. Even on hard days, you push, but have more in the tank. Patience. Know when to push.

The vast majority of hard workouts should be about a 7 or 8 out of 10. Have another rep in the tank. Going to complete exhaustion looks great on Instagram. But it isn't best for your long term performance. Save the max efforts for race day.

kind of just endlessly sad and grieving that there are so few voices in the public sphere making the basic principled argument that immigration is an affirmative good in every way and the best way for this country to serve humanity is to welcome people who want or need to leave their homes

It's tragic Mack Brown wasn't given another year to complete the bookend 5-game losing streaks to NC State. But I was there for the first five, and can genuinely say 151-45 makes it look closer than it was. @edsbs.bsky.social @newap-georgia.bsky.social @hollyanderson.bsky.social
Spencer Hall looks at you.$151.45 donated to New American Pathways because NC State is more than three times as good as schools in the western RTP suburbs. An old man standing among university of North Carolina football players, and for some reason wearing a jacket with a picture of a basketball player.

You have opportunity after opportunity to create something lovely for yourself or others. Every moment you choose to sit and think about horrors beyond your control, every time you make the choice to look for more and more details about just HOW bad... you are turning away from those opportunities.

Stop halfway resting and halfway working. We spend too much time in this in-between zone of kind of doing work, but not doing actual deep work. Work deeply. Rest deeply. Get out of the middle zone.
