So tired of him shitting all over people who are doing their best in hard times. Just let them use some damn condensed soup. Some canned fish. Basic pasta. Stop guilting parents for getting to 75% instead of 100. And ffs, stop cutting programs *that people use to buy food*.

I co-sign this great summary from @dereklowe.bsky.social . The goal is to destroy academic science, and these are the reasons. And all the “gold standard” and “needs reform” and “not high risk” stuff is transparent bullshit to hide the ball on what they are doing.

Science
science. But let me make something clear right up front. When I talk to people about this subject (and that includes some journalists as well) and say what I'm about to at the end of this paragaph I am sometimes met with disbelief. But I mean what I say and I am trying my best to say what I mean: The Trump administration hates academic science funding, full stop. They hate where that money goes, and they hate who it goes to. They want to keep all that money for themselves, to hand out to favored cronies who can help them get elected and to steer yet more money and more power back into their hands.
That's it. That's the story. They are naturally not putting it in those words, but instead talking about "gold standard science" and the
"reproducibility crisis" and funding "bold inquiry" for "transformational
breakthroughs". This is all bullshit, and it's important to realize that. Shameless hand-waving bullshit, delivered in a how-dare-vou-

The top part of the Moon is illuminated. The gray cratered surface stands out against the blackness of space. The Earth appears in the far distance as an upside-down crescent moon shape. There is some lens flare in the top part and center of the image. Credit: NASA

Our multi-ancestry, multi-tissue MR study for type 2 diabetes is out in Nature Metabolism! Amazing collab with the Type 2 Diabetes Global Genetics Initiative. Glycerol-3-phosphate activates ChREBP, FGF21 transcription and lipogenesis in citrin deficiency
Nature Metabolism, Published online: 14 November 2025; doi:10.1038/s42255-025-01399-3In a mouse model of the rare disease citrin deficiency, the authors discovered that the accumulation of glycerol-3-phosphate leads to ChREBP activation and FGF21 induction. The study identifies glycerol-3-phosphate as a ChREBP-activating ligand, which could resolve paradoxes of FGF21 expression and clarify the logic of lipogenic transcription.

I was a strong advocate for removing the GRE and we stopped requiring it for Fall 2021 admissions. We are likely bringing it back for the next admissions cycle. Letters all good; GPAs hard to compare with grade inflation across schools; essays are mostly just AI.

I am a first gen college student from a tiny rural farm town in the middle of nowhere in the Midwest where finishing high school wasn’t something everyone did, let alone go to college or even grad school. And I am a scientist because of the National Institutes of Health.
