Given the recent news cycle I've been thinking a lot about Rob Asen's concept of "anti-woke publics" and how these collectives position themselves as the rational moderates who are neither bad supremacists like the right or identity-obsessed lefties. But guess who they carry water for? Full essay:

People talking about people
I rarely talk about Buddhism. One part of this has to do with the fact I generally rarely talk about personal stuff, and people rarely ask. Another has to do with a general disinclination towards “…

For business owners, the important part of the new ECHR advice is this: 13.179: There is no type of official record or document in the UK which provides reliable evidence of sex. [...] Therefore, it is unlikely to be proportionate or practical to ask for further evidence of a person’s sex.

👏 "I am, in no way shape or form writing this article as some sort of mealy-mouth apologia for EdTech. I am nervous, however, about the rise of tech-lash inspired, synthetic, and schoolish pedagogies being framed as liberatory for the sole reason that they are analogue." - @mraleosays.bsky.social

I liked this blog post on the general way an ability to hold apparently contradictory thoughts (or, really, ideas in tension) together without crashing out is very important for sensible political analysis. aquarusa.wordpress.com/2025/12/31/p...

Often expressed disdain for 'ideological purity' by Labour/Democrat aligned types. Seems to reveal ignorance that those abandoning centrists as they move rightwards are doing so at the culmination of a negotiation over multiple issues, rather than at the start. They've been given lots of chances!

Fun fact: at the end of his career (and life), Malinowski was embarking on the study of the concept of 'Freedom'. He saw nationalism as the chief obstacle to human freedom. This is the tentative argument structure; pay attention to the paragraph at the bottom of the page.

Sometimes I defend high-minded principles of peace and goodwill that I think consonant with leftist values, but my opponents are always able to cite all the worker led socialist paradises that ruthless willingness to deploy violence have wrought so I'm forced to bow before their superior pragmatism.
