About 15-20 yrs ago, a bunch of reviews (inc. 1 by me) made predictions about the future of genomics in conservation. 1 yr ago at ICISB, Robin Waples assessed which of those predictions had been fulfilled. We’re deploying 106 receivers in the inner Oslofjord for the NMBU cod project with @oceantracking.bsky.social. This study tracks migration and movement shifts in two cod ecotypes and assessing habitat changes. Using Thelma and Innovation equipment, an open protocol is key to the project!

Atlantic herring is one of the most abundant fishes in the world. In two new studies, we show that some herring in the Baltic Sea have become fish eaters. These piscivorous herring are genetically unique, grow fast, and play an important role in regulating stickleback populations.
