Punishing yourself is part of the point of undertaking a Nuzlocke in the first place!! If you're not embracing the tedium you are not playing in the true spirit of a Nuzlocke. It's a different challenge run entirely at that point. Sorry the streamers you watch can't find a way to make grinding fun.

There are an equal number of people who will angrily assert an entry is shit as there are people who will passionately defend it. This is the case for literally every entry. Personally I'm baffled by people who say Diamond/Pearl are bad because I had a much better time with them than Ruby/Sapphire

Nah, Pearl slaps IMO You can't take any one person's opinions on individual Pokémon games as indicative of any kind of consensus opinion, because the more you try to get a sense of any consensus opinion on ANY of the Pokémon games, you will find there is none.

It's part of the challenge! Grinding comes with its own risks, you can easily lose one of your Pokémon to grinding if you're not paying attention Plus, grinding up a low-level replacement Pokémon to current party level SHOULD be frustrating because it's punishment for letting one of your party die!

It's -absolutely- about grinding Pokémon because it makes you that much more invested in not losing them. It's also about the tradeoff of spending more time on tedium for safer battles versus not wanting to and thus having riskier battles. Grinding is an -essential- part of the Nuzlocke experience.

Ironically part of the reason I never got to see much of Jaiy when he was in Chicago here and there over the last few years was because he was super allergic to ferrets. But we still caught up at cons. If I reached out he'd always make time. He was a really good guy.

We hadn't spoken much through the 2020s, a lot of which is my fault because I've been so hermit mode (I didn't even know he was on bsky) but we would still make plans to see each other at cons and hang out like nothing had changed. I sincerely loved that guy. I can't imagine him not being around.

Jaiy and I used to hang out a lot when we were both in college living in Grand Rapids. Over a decade ago. We used to joke about which of our tiny apartments we'd hang out in after leaving Founders' pub. We were really close through a lot of the 2010s I can't take this shit anymore, man. RIP. =(
