New #isotope #isoscape paper.. Sarah Magozzi leads a huge team building isoscapes for the #Mediterranean Tldr: state of the art statistical models cannot compensate for systematic variance in opportunistic data. Important finding in AI meta-analysis world -cannot just rely on compiled data.

Isoscape models for Med Sea - Note short spatial scale as isotope values revert to the global mean - difficult to resolve larger scale spatial pattern with systematic but un-modelled sources of variance in opportunistic data

Conference hotel for 7th international #otolith symposium here in Chile. Otoliths are stony structures in fish ears which grow with rings like trees. Estimating the age of fish from otoliths underpins sustainable fishery management. 🧪
