And after another hour of research I found out it's likely because stanford SCCEI wrote a short summary of that paper, and now people called it "the stanford study" which sounds bad in so many ways!!

Found out my article had become the most-read article in Critical Sociology → vanity led me to check what's going on → discovered that many people were citing my article as proof that the Chinese social credit system that scores millions of people exists on reddit/twitter → screaming into the void

Talked to a student last week, and she was like “I read your dissertation!” So I reread it today, and now I’m so embarrassed I want to embargo it forever

Heading to 4S? I’ll be in Toronto October 7–10, presenting three coauthored papers: a quantitative study of public perceptions of human intervention in algorithmic decisions, a conceptual paper on technological liminality, and a qualitative study of bureaucrats’ data work. Come say hi!

This is horrible news. I don't think I could conduct my fieldwork or finish my dissertation without the DDRIG. This would also eliminate one of the very few funding opportunities accessible to international students, making their already-terrible situations worse.

It's clear to me now that many really don't care about sociology as a discipline, but are simply using the moment to express their grievance and resentment toward the journals and departments that rejected them. Funny that this is the same group of people who are against "grievance studies."

We've seen this over and over again. Why don't women negotiate more? Because they're punished when they do. Why don't they network with more people? Because they're punished for it. Women don't need to change the way they act. They're acting rationally based on the way the world reacts to them. +

Found a random classification gap: the “Research Article” category for CHI only appears after 2008. Before that, papers were labeled simply as “articles,” which isn’t included in the ACM Digital Library’s “content type” filter. So if you rely on that filter (like me), you may miss a lot of papers.
