In order for information to turn into inspiration, people need to feel like they have something to do that is part of an effort large enough to make a difference. And to let the truth sink in, we need to emotionally support each other. This is our take, based on social science.

How does polarisation get in the way of climate action? In polarised countries like the US and Australia, extreme weather barely moves climate concern — because accepting the science feels like switching sides. Division is literally making it harder for people to face reality.
121
Climate Majority Project @climatemajority.bsky.social · 05/06/2026
Why does it persist? Because extreme voices dominate. Research shows outrage travels faster than common ground. 61% of Americans find talking politics stressful — so the reasonable majority goes quiet, and the loudest voices continue dominating public conversations.
100
Climate Majority Project @climatemajority.bsky.social · 05/06/2026
In the US, 86% of people say politicians are more focused on fighting each other than solving problems. When asked what's wrong with the system, "polarisation" is the single most popular answer. People see it. They hate it. But it persists.

Adaptation creates agency - and agency creates participation. And participation forces communities to confront climate realities, and come to the logical conclusion that adaptation alone is not enough.
121
Climate Majority Project @climatemajority.bsky.social · 21/05/2026
And something important happens when communities adapt together: People realise they are not alone in their climate concerns. They begin to see themselves as part of a majority that wants safety, stability, and courageous climate action.
