the claim that a bill forcefully backed by the Trump White House, the American Petroleum Institute, and Koch Industries is "clearly a net positive for the climate" is, and I believe this is the technical term, utter horseshit. #BAAJA
Jane Flegal: "16/Permitting involves tradeoffs and hard calls, no question. But this bill is clearly a net positive for climate and for the country. Heartfelt thanks to the senators who got it done. Let’s make it law./end"

#isaias has a terrible beauty. As satellite imagery shows, the cyclone is training in moisture and winds all the way from Virginia as the core heat engine builds strength in the Gulf. Looking like a direct hit on Mobile, with devastating tornadoes expected in from Montgomery to Tallahassee.

2026: "We work with major companies and investors to make the business case for innovative climate and clean energy policy..."
We work with major companies and investors to make the business case for innovative climate and clean energy policy. By engaging with members of the U.S. Congress and the federal administration to support well-designed policies, we aim to take advantage of the business opportunities of a cleaner and more resilient economy while reducing the financial risks of climate change. Our priorities include:

Leveraging federal policy to unlock private investment in clean energy and advanced manufacturing.

Defending existing policies aimed at producing innovative technologies to reduce U.S. climate pollution.

Ensuring federal clean energy and advanced manufacturing investments deliver benefits across the U.S.

We work with our members to advocate for:

Bold investments in clean energy, clean transportation, efficient buildings, advanced manufacturing, and resilient agriculture.

Strong standards to drive innovation in transportation, power, and other key sectors.

Responsibly streamlined processes to more efficiently build and deploy clean energy infrastructure and better compete on the global stage.

Policies to modernize power grid infrastructure and drive down energy costs.

"The energy demands of the 21st-century economy require 21st-century infrastructure and energy technologies. We are proud to stand with this coalition in urging the adoption of favorable policies and innovative energy tech, so we can modernize America's grid and affordably improve our time to power,” said Jeannie Salo, Chief Public Policy Officer, North America, Schneider Electric

“Modernizing America’s energy infrastructure is essential to ensuring reliable power for a rapidly growing and increasingly digital economy,” said John Pappas, Government Affairs Director for Siemens. “Smart, bipartisan reforms that accelerate the deployment of advanced grid technologies should be a top priority to address increasing energy demand. By improving transmission planning and optimizing the grid we have today, the U.S. can quickly and affordably unlock new capacity and support the buildout of next-generation manufacturing, data centers, and other critical industries.”

In all seriousness, this is Demsas telling on herself and her fellow ecomodernists:
"Listen, I love that America is full of weirdos with fringe beliefs. But what I don't love is that a group of weirdos with fringe believes is A) portraying itself as a mainstream environmental organization, B) acting as though it's on the same side as green groups who are primarily concerned about climate change and pollution, C) pretending to be a mass membership organization, and D) threatening lawsuits in order to prevent governments from being able to act in the best interests of everyone — not just the unusually litigious." - Jerusalem Demsas, ecomodernist smear merchant

@weact4progress.bsky.social, the campaign arm of the @usprogressives.bsky.social, is strongly opposed to #BAAJA Link to call senators: secure.ngpvan.com/IMfeKPTji0e8...
For months, oil and gas companies and tech giants have lobbied Congress to weaken the rules that stand between their next project and your community. Now, Senate negotiators have reportedly reached a “permitting reform” deal that could be rushed through before recess.

Contact your senators NOW. Tell them: VOTE NO on this “permitting” deal.

This deal could gut the rules that protect the air your children breathe, the water your family drinks, and your right to have a say when a dangerous project is proposed next door. It threatens to let developers cut corners on checking for harm, sideline Tribal Nations and local communities, and make it harder to challenge harmful projects in court. Companies could get faster approvals while families lose the tools to protect themselves.

Communities already fighting pollution and massive data center projects could face even greater harm. Rural communities, low-income families, and communities of color have borne the costs of corporate corner-cutting for generations. Congress must stop asking them to pay with their health.

Tell your Senators: Reject this deal. Put communities over corporate interests.

In solidarity,
- PCAF

Lots of good in BAAJA, including shrinking our juristocracy & vetocracy.

From backstop federal siting authority, to NEPA judicial review/time limits, to ending Trump's war on wind, it'll re-empower elected officials to do things we elected them to do and save us money and jobs.

In case you're wondering, yes the folks backing the Exxon-AI fast-tracking bill are playing dirty ... here's @adamjentleson.bsky.social deliberately misinterpreting @riogranderift.bsky.social in a leaked transcript of an organizing call to Punchbowl. Real callback to Climategate!
Adam Jentleson: "It’s instructive to see groups ostensibly dedicated to fighting climate change say they don’t think a bill should be judged by whether it reduces carbon emissions."

"Erik Schlenker-Goodrich, West. Envtl. Law Ctr :58:08] Yeah. So we we made. We made the point that this bill should not be judged just based on a net emissions analysis and that that sweeps aside ecological and community values. So there was an ask about what that. like? So that would be a good thing for folks to ponder as they're engaging in offices. Like, we'd like to see... and what we... and then, so as an example, we said we'd love an assessment to... we'd love an assessment to see what this means for public lands. You know, how many data centers would this open the doors to? How much additional fossil fuel development would this open the door to? How would this impact habitat quality on public land? So focusing on that public land side of the equation and the infrastructure that would be built on public lands. But that's that's just one domain, you know. You could see it also with imperiled species or environmental justice. I don't know what those analyses look like at that level. But I think that's something that we could push."

PUNCHBOWL NEWS:

Greens plot. Environmental groups are split over how to handle a permitting bill negotiated by two longtime allies of the movement: Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) and Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.), the ENR ranking member.
On a Thursday call organized in part by the Sierra Club, a transcript of which was leaked to us, progressive opponents tried to rally fence-sitters against the bill. Some of the 89 participants said they hadn't fully reviewed it yet.
At the outset of the call, one speaker, Brett Hartl, government affairs director at the Center for Biological Diversity, stressed he wanted to keep their strategy a secret from Whitehouse and Heinrich.
"Our tactics and information cannot get back to Dan Dudis and Whitehouse and Heinrich.…
