Low vision design is better design. Clear hierarchy, flexible layouts, and full functionality at high zoom improve access for everyone. Great insights from Ian Lloyd. tetralogical.com/blo... #Accessibility #InclusiveDesign #LowVision #UXDesign #DigitalAccessibility #WCAG #A11y

Designing for people with low vision - TetraLogical
img.headings { width:50%; min-width:400px; max-width:100%; } @media (max-width: 400px) { img.headings { min-width: 100%; } } Low vision affects millions of people worldwide, yet it's often overlooked in the design process. The design choices we make, from how we emphasise content to where we position controls, can either empower people to customise their experience or create unnecessary barriers. By understanding these impacts and designing with flexibility in mind, we can create interfaces that truly work for everyone.

It’s coming. One week. 6 May. I contributed a chapter on accessibility overlays, but the other 33 make it worth it. “Digital Accessibility Ethics: Disability Inclusion in All Things Tech” accessibilityethics.org #DigitalAccessibilityEthics
Book cover with title and subtitle: “Digital Accessibility Ethics: Disability Inclusion in All Things Tech.” Below is an abstract painting of yellow, orange, blue, turquoise, pink, and purple arcs; figures, circles, and building-like shapes are in the lower half. On the top left corner of the arcs are the words “Edited by Lainey Feingold, Reginé Gilbert, Chancey Fleet.” The publisher's name, “CRC Press / Taylor & Francis” appears in the bottom right corner.

Pop-ups immediately make me leave the site every time, no matter what the info. But I can while-heartedly agree about the algorithm and social media! The Internet has changed so much and our control inside it is less and less.

Pop-ups asking to subscribe to a newsletter or claim a coupon are a whole other level of aggression and rudeness that shouldn’t be normalized. Make the internet great again by not interrupting folks when they’re just trying to read an article.

They are not. They’re often simply a bandaid to give people a false sense of security against lawsuits. They don’t fix the underlying problems.

When creating PDFs, avoid using "Print to PDF." A screen reader user may still be able to access the text of PDFs created this way, but heading structure, alternative text, and any other tag structure will be lost. Using "Save As" or "Export" can preserve these tags.

Amazon did not get my Christmas business this year either. I leaned into Costco for bigger items. The smaller items I’m making myself, since I put more time into crocheting and sewing this year. As a nod to my new sewing skills, I’m wrapping a few gifts at home in fabric & cloth ribbon! Less waste.

bringing this statement over from Alice’s Twitter. it appears the below was Alice’s last post before passing. I am heartbroken
This is Alice's friend Sandy Ho, posting. Per Alice's wishes, this message is being shared at the time of her passing.
Hi everyone, it looks like I ran out of time. I have so many dreams that I wanted to fulfill and plans to create new stories for you. There are a few in progress that might come to fruition in a few years if things work out. I did not ever imagine I would live to this age and end up a writer, editor, activist, and more. As a kid riddled with insecurity and internalized ableism, I could not see a path forward. It was thanks to friendships and some great teachers who believed in me that I was able to fight my way out of miserable situations into a place where I finally felt comfortable in my skin.
We need more stories about us and our culture.
You all, we all, deserve the everything and more in such a hostile, ableist environment. Our wisdom is incisive and unflinching. I'm honored to be your ancestor and believe disabled oracles like us will light the way to the future. Don't let the bastards grind you down. I love you all.
