Joint task forces have historically been used to fight drug cartels and terrorism. In DC, Trump is using them to police children on their way to school and harass people simply for being outside.

South Carolina state law allows governors to deploy the National Guard only under certain conditions like war, invasion, or disaster. None of those conditions were met when Governor Henry McMaster chose to participate in Trump's occupation of DC. Last week the case went to the SC Supreme Court.

This is outrageous — and it's one of many reasons Governor Kemp should immediately remove Georgia's troops from DC, and why gubernatorial candidates Keisha Lance Bottoms and Rick Jackson should clearly state whether as Commander in Chief they would remove Georgia troops from DC schools and streets.

Breaking news: An ICE officer fatally shot a Mexican immigrant in Houston during an attempted traffic stop arrest, authorities said. ICE identified the man as Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and said he was in the U.S. illegally and refused to comply with officers.

NEWS: D.C. has released body-camera footage from the incident last October where D.C. resident Phillip Brown was shot by a federal agent during a traffic stop on Benning Road NE. The release comes after the D.C. Council passed an emergency bill requiring the disclosure.

NEWS: The D.C. Council just voted unanimously to decouple 13 provisions of the city's tax code from the federal code. It's a step to avoid some of the tax cuts (and loss of revenue) that would come from the GOP's tax bill passed earlier this year.

UPDATE—Mahmoud's attorney says they do NOT know where he is. They were first told he was sent to an ICE facility in Elizabeth, NJ. But when his 8-month-pregnant wife tried to visit him, she was told he's not there. They've received reports he may be sent as far away as Louisiana.

Not great financial news for D.C.: The CFO's quarterly revenue estimate shows that for FY26, which starts in October, D.C. is expected to take in $325 million less than it expected back in December. And that repeats in the following years. A big cause: federal layoffs.
