6 yrs ago today I unveiled an English Heritage #BluePlaque to the 1st woman to serve Britain as a special agent in #WW2 - #krystynaSkarbek aka #ChristineGranville, #TheSpyWhoLoved. It took a 6-year campaign, but it’s now at her last address, 1 Lexham Gardens, Kensington, if you want to have a look.

Grt to see #AgentZo still in Amazon’s best-seller lists. Esp at #15 in the history/special forces list as it is the ONLY bk by or about a woman in the top 50. If I hadn’t written it, you’d think women had not served in the special forces at all… don’t be fooled: many played v significant roles!

#EveWilkinson, 14.1.1922-11.8.2026 Aged 20, Masters was posted to the War Cabinet Office below London nr Downing St, to code & decode #WinstonChurchill ‘s classified comms, sometimes as dust showered down during air-raids. In Sept 1944, she was part of the cypher team at #QuebecConference.

. Among the clouds inside the former bourse de commerce, built in the 1760s, in Paris… Cloud #07156 is an immersive indoor fog sculpture by Japanese artist #FujikoNakaya & it is really beautiful! Quick stop off as I head by train to write hard in the French countryside for a few weeks.

Róża (Różyczka) Goździewska served as a nurse during the #warsawuprising when she was 8 years old, bringing water to the wounded in a field hospital, 82 years ago (Aug-Oct 1944). Her father had been killed by the Gestapo the year before, & she served alongside a 19yo cousin.
