Great! I love names. In one class, sitting in a row, I have Liv, Lilah, Lola, Isla. In 4 different classes I have “my”, “my-a”, “me-a” and “may-a” I have a postit note on my desk telling me which is in which class. Impossible to tell from their spellings.

In #mathstoday core maths students estimated how many eggs would be eaten in Swindon in a year. Followed by learning about mortgages. Lots of discussion and board work:)

In #mathstoday tomorrow, in core maths, I’m going to ask students to estimate how many cats there are in Cirencester and how many potatoes are needed to serve a portion to each student in the college.

Seems like a good system. Apart from the coin thing and if you have a trolley full but the person ahead of you has a basket. The Aldi I go to has stopped the “you can’t pack your bags at the till” thing and have slowed down a little.

GCSE resit. There are some students in every class who insist on using non calculator method for % even in calculator questions. Say they can’t do the calculator way.

In #mathstoday at home, we were discussing the height of marking I have done over my teaching career. Over 100m. Eek

I have a feeling our library ordered direct from author and paid a bit less.

There is now a textbook covering the whole #ALstatistics (not specifically marketed as such, but does say so on the inside)

If your idea of patriotism is calling any member of the RNLI, an entirely voluntary organisation whose crews daily risk their lives to save others, a traitor, then you are beyond hope of redemption.

They’re encouraged to bring their own. But they can borrow a laptop for 4hrs.

In #mathstoday I taught 1st lesson of AL stats. They used #Gapminder, #worldfactbook and the #OCR large dataset to produce graphs and plots in #Desmos. Also my #GCSEmaths resit students focused on nailing one mark questions in their 1st lesson.

In #mathstoday my yr 13 AL maths started functions by sketching straight lines and quadratic on the whiteboards around the walls. Yr13 AS Further maths revised complex numbers and argand diagrams, working in groups.

We are also starting AL stats this year. Tip one: when searching use “9ST0” which targets t AL stats and not all the other stuff you get. Tip two: come to the annual AL stats teachers meet up/CPD. We’re hoping to host it this summer (😳) at Cirencester College on a Friday in June after exams.

Mm maybe turn off voicemail for a while so they might “think” it’s a not used number. Don’t decline call as then it “knows” you’re there. I should add that I know nothing.

My daughter had this a few years ago from foreign numbers. Then, there was a way with non apple phones to block all incoming calls from abroad.
