Decided to confuse my #AI aided mobile phone by taking 4 different photos of the #Moon! 1. Through normal non polarized sunglasses 2. Through polarized sunglasses 3. Reflected off windowsill through polarized sunglasses rotated at 90 degrees 4. Reflected off magnifying mirror

Glowing Glorious Glimpse It only lasted a few minutes! The Sun had already set but its after effect lingered long enough to create another warm glow inside my house. It was as if the light took a 2nd chance by reflecting off #cloud, to remind me of nature's glorious twilight.
A photo of the sky showing various warm hues & other colours, all reflecting light from clouds after the setting Sun, from the outside of an upstairs window.

Imagine That! The square root of minus one, written as √(−1), is an imaginary number. At 1st it seems surreal to combine i with a real number in order to form the origins of the complex number, but for e.g. in electrical engineering, it's a quirk of real #mathematical nature.
An older version of AI I used to illustrate a complex number.

It's 7.03 & there's rain. Now the thing is, it's making me feel like winter (before winter has arrived( which is ok to a certain extent but the sky has a type of muddy look about it with pink overtones (not that I'm averse to pink or anything) but imagine if it wS sudd endlyn just green, or purple?

Moon Over Trees The Moon can be seen just above trees from my garden, with a warm glow & in slight cloud haze. So, not easily seen from this mobile phone photo, there's also a much warmer halo around it. I can also hear the last of the day's bird whistling in a nearby garden.

The evening is getting ready for the stars. No photo, you'll have to use your imagination for a change! I'm just admiring the clear twilight #sky now. It's a beautiful aqua colour near the horizon from the last of the setting Sun, then looking higher up, a deep sea blue hue...

You'd be superb presenting the Christmas Lectures. You are a scientist. For its audience, a school science teacher has just as much effective & proven communication skills in science as a University professor & in fact probably more so if they've written good books & have great attitude to it all...

The Royal Observatory Greenwich online team have moved to other platforms & left their 1st platform (reference my screenshot). I checked to see if they were here on Bluesky but I can't find them. I was replying to Peter just now & mentioned them linked. It seems they're on Instagram & YouTube now.

I've got book, 'Quantum: A Guide for the Perplexed' by Professor Al-Khalili, or if I can call him Jim! & it's very good. Great he's to do the Royal Institution Christmas Lectures this yr. Because he's qualified in the hard sciences of physics & mathematics he has authority to communicate science.

If you're new here, this post linked, is just a sample of the projects I do online, in particular science writing & theorising. I started science writing when my website went live in Dec 1999 but had an interest in science many yrs before that -I may have mentioned, since age 6.

Sir Professor Roger Penrose is my favourite scientist. This is a link to a post I did, which is a bit about him & part of a thread (of a few threads) I wrote about mathematicalphysics which references his books I have, & his thinking behind his theory making. He's an expert on #mathematicalphysics

I would be Carrie, if it was the actor & Peter I like (obviously back then!) refer to my screenshot. Refer to my original post about this in the 1st link here -> bsky.app/profile/clai... However, the fair hair & glasses of that actor then, are a plus but hair isn't a must & neither are glasses...
Screenshot of my post a while ago that's about a British TV series called 'A Very Peculiar Practice' with lead actor Peter Davison (who also starred as Dr Who) & my admiration for his acting & looks (if I'm allowed to say)

Hidden Worlds Unlike astronomy, the science of electrical engineering isn't visually obvious. An e.g. is electromagnetic waves require a skill of the imagination to visualise. Surprisingly, #electricity is often unseen but simple experiments can evoke much awe as shown in this old photo of a bolt.

So there were no excuses. During childhood this creates resilience later in life, whether mental or physical. Although this thread I wrote is a bit off topic, science proves cold, hardship & being exposed to tough challenges earlier means being better prepared for any eventuality later in life.

This is something I've done all my life. My parents divorced in the mid 1970s, so not being well off meant I rarely ate fatty, processed foods nor desserts & sweets, so nothing new to me. We also had no car, so my best friend & I walked to school every day & in winter. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

1st photo is unedited using my mobile phone. 2nd is edited version of what I saw at 4.30am this morning of Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights). Colours were more saturated by naked eye, so I illustrated contrasts between greens on the right & reds on the left in the 2nd version.
This is my mobile phone interpretation of the sky but not showing the full colour contrastsEdited to show colours I saw with naked eye but they were even stronger than this.

I love nature I've just seen a dragonfly! It was in flight like the butterflies I refer to in my post linked here, so no photo but what a beautiful insect to spot, even if it's only to experience it flying around for a few seconds. I saw it from above from an open back window.

In the link to my thread on this, I mention mathematics & psychology & in part put together their practical use is amplified, so an e.g. Game Theory. Obviously on their own, they're also useful & both applicable to other subject areas & not just in science. Context is key here..

Glorious #Sunshine day today! I was sat in my garden earlier & noticed a few insects of 3 butterflies, 1 white & 2 brown in colour. I couldn't take a photo of them because they didn't stop on a leaf but they're around (I've a pear tree) ready to get drunk on my fermented pears!

It was such a brilliant music track that they could get away with a really rubbish video backdrop, so much so, that they tried the most ridiculously rubbish 1 just to prove the song could stand up for itself & it worked. Apart from that, I think Robin looks superb. #BeeGees youtu.be/fNFzfwLM72c?...

I didn't observe Arcturus during the day in summer this yr but in August 1 early evening, I captured it here on my mobile phone. It was in-between, but scientifically it was behind clouds at the time & as the warm street light bounced back from them, their hues matched the star!

I'm a big fan on Vangelis. This track also as Jon & Vangelis, was a classic. I was only 12 in 1982 shown in that video so this track was lingering in the background of that era around then as my interest in Vangelis increased more after I left school & then in the early 90s onwards. Iconic music...

I live in a town & near a coast but if I could afford it, I'd live in a (not massive) but large detached house with big gardens on the edge of a small village, but if I had millions, then I'd live in a Scottish Castle on a pinnacle only accessible by 1 road like Dunnottar (it's actually a ruin)...
A screenshot of a photo of Scottish Castle Dunnottar.A screenshot of a longer version of my post here that says: I like scientific futuristic tech but also no internet in remote areas of the world would be good. Even though travel afar always appears superb (but expensive), I like my home comforts (got all I need locally, coast, sea, nature reserves, country mins away). I live in a town but if I could afford it, I'd live in a (not massive) but large detached house with big gardens on the edge of a small village, not too remote that it'd be too isolating but next to countryside/nature & a few neighbours dotted about the area for security. Also darker skies for astronomy! But if I had millions, then I'd live in a Scottish Castle on a pinnacle only accessible by 1 road like Dunnottar (it's actually a ruin, so it'd have to be rebuilt!), with sea views at front & mountains at back. I'd have wooden panelled walls, stone fireplaces & a proper library! (& an observatory!)

Superb analysis of his method of teaching & learning (Math Files - other platform) Here's a short thread I wrote about general thoughts on what I think he'd assume about science & mathematics in the world today. My 1st post was a bit off topic but the enigmatic photo of him, inspired me even more!
A screenshot of Math Files's post from other platform, about Richard Feynman's experience of students being surprised by an area of mathematics that they didn't fully understand which involved using a French Curve, a special type of ruler created by a mathematician, to illustrate it. A start would be put your (not you Mr Greene! -ref other platform) mobile away or at least face down on a table pref on silent mode, before listening to someone so giving someone your full attention. E.g When I go out for a meal, I have my mobile in my handbag but often other diners are using them.
