When I was a kid and realized it’s not typical for people to have their second and third toes on each foot connected about half way up (like a single wide toe which becomes two, not webbed). I have embraced it ever since. I don’t remember ever wanting to be typical.

Looks like they’re cutting the old pole into sections and lowering them to the ground, dashing our hopes of seeing a helicopter flying away with it.

They are still working. A helicopter has been hanging around here all day and is no longer here. It seems like a terrible waste of fuel. We’re wondering whether it will come back to lift the old pole up and away.

The top of the power pole is now in this trailer. We think some of the other junk in the trailer may have been stuff they used to cover the hole they dug a while back for the new pole. At the time we thought the equipment for that was putting in a pipe for drainage.

They used a chain saw to cut off one of the cross sections with transformers on it from the top of the old pole and now they’re lowering it to the ground.

I have to say, it is interesting to watch.

Top of the two power poles from the previous photo. Now the worker at the end of the cherrypicker arm is near the ploe top, a little above them and to the left. Below the end of the cherrypicker is what looks like a small metal wheel holding a taut power line, removed from the old pole and about to be attached to the new one .

One would think if they were going to block off our street with a bunch of heavy equipment so we and our neighbors can’t get our cars out, they would have put up some signs or otherwise warned us in advance. One would be wrong.

Dear beautiful women,
I've started this letter like ten times and deleted it every time because every time I start I cry. So I'm just going to write it.
Your flag matters to me. It matters so much that it's flying at a lesbian household where anyone walking by can see it.
I'm a trans girl so I'm not sure you can relate but I'll try. Most days I'm doing math in my head like which hallway is safer, who I can sit near at lunch whether it's worth saying something or just letting it go. I'm so tired. I don't think people who don't have to do it know how tired it makes you.
I walk past your house almost daily. The first time I saw the flag I slowed down without meaning to. It was just hanging there like it was no big deal but to me it was everything. It felt like the people inside would see me as who I actually am and I wouldn't have to explain or prove anything. My shoulders dropped for the first time all day and I almost cried right there in front of your home.
I know that living here isn't easy for gay people like you where not everyone is kind about it so putting that flag up means risking stares, comments or worse. You didn't have to do it. It would have been so much easier to stay quiet. You did it anyway, and that is the bravest thing I've seen anyone do. Every day it stays up it tells people like me that someone is willing to be brave so we don't have to be alone.
Now I look for it. Some days it's the one thing that makes me feel like I'm not imagining that I deserve to be here. When so much of the world feels like it's deciding whether there's room for me your flag says there is. Please keep it up. You might not know it but it's helping me get through the day.
Thank you for your courage, and for leaving the porch light on for the rest of us.

This is true for people down the food chain as well. Early in my career in a large company I was as respectful and helpful as possible to the admins of the Vice Presidents. I started doing it because it was the right thing to do, and in time I learned it paid big dividends.
