My best friend is dressing as Jack Kirby for Halloween this year. Should I do Dwayne McDuffie? (Co-creator of Static)

Here’s something that made my day: a friend said they got a job at a comic book shop…specifically because they used me as a reference and the owner had read my work. Swear to god it’s things like this that confirm I picked the right path.

This National Comic Book Day, I want to share one of my all time favorite signatures. This is on Collin Kelly and Jackson Lanzing’s first volume of Star Trek; I’m fans of their work but it turns out they were fans of mine. Stuff like this keeps me going as a writer.

Joshua Cassara drew plenty of great images through his comic career, and the one that really stands out is this segment from X Lives of Wolverine #1. An image that perfectly sums up Logan and why he sticks with the X-Men.

No matter how many times I watch it, I’m still blown away by BATMAN: MASK OF THE PHANTASM. Top three Bat-movie.

Funny enough there’s an anime called Disk Wars where the Avengers and other Marvel heroes get trapped in Beyblade style discs. It was fun!

@peanutbutterwhisky.bsky.social posted a few Avengers: Doomsday products but my favorite remains this Beyblade set. The idea of Reed and Doom whipping out Beyblades is just hilarious to me.

Looks like Maya Boyd is reading up on her Storm lore. And she made an excellent pick with Murewa Ayodele’s run!

Daniel Warren Johnson did in 24 issues of comics what Michael Bay failed to do in 5 films: tell a Transformers story that does have plenty of robot violence but also well developed human characters, actual soul, and an actual look at the cost of war. Read Skybound Transformers. It’s excellent.

It’s also wild that people would think a Darth Vader movie is going to happen or that they want it to happen* because putting aside that six out of the mainline Star Wars movies focus on him, his story’s been expanded upon in comics. We’re not hurting for Vader stuff.

The wild part about the film snobs clutching their pearls over whether or not the X-Men will be “sexy enough” is that Jake Schreier named Chris Claremont and Jonathan Hickman’s runs as his major inspiration. Aka the runs with moments like these:

Just watched THE END OF OAK STREET and I’m wondering how David Robert Mitchell managed to sell this movie. It’s a sci fi film that involves time travel and dinosaurs get it plays out like a slasher film at times. It shouldn’t work, yet it does. Anne Hathaway remains undefeated.

Cyclops has been the best leader for the X-Men because he took the best lessons from Xavier and Magneto. He lives among humans and protects them, but he won’t take their shit. (Posting this because Jed MacKay is the GOAT)

I’m writing a piece on this soon, but a while back DC and Star Wars almost had a crossover before it was shot down. Funny how things work out.

SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY is both heartbreaking and heartwarming, not to mention packed full of some of the best action sequences I’ve seen in a superhero movie. Big props to Tom Holland and Destin Daniel Cretton for this one, 9/10 web-shooters.

Without saying your age, what's your favourite movie that came out when you were 18?

Collier “CJ” Jennings @cjwritesstuff.bsky.social · 17/07/2026

THE ODYSSEY is a true work of art. Easily one of Nolan’s top three films, it’s a meditation on the costs of war both in body and spirit, and a reminder that some stories still have plenty of life left in them. 10/10 big-ass wooden horses. Definitely see it in IMAX!

The first thing I can ever remember seeing Sam Neill in was the MERLIN TV movie, where he knocked it out of the park and sparked my lifelong love of Arthurian lore. Rest well, sir. You were a force to be reckoned with and if there was actual magic in this world you’d be making more movies.

So it looks like Marvel’s next Premier Collections will be SECRET WARS (2015) and AVENGERS: TIME RUNS OUT in August. That’s actually genius marketing - want to read the stuff that inspired Doomsday? Here’s a head start!

Currently reading Greg Rucka and Marco Checchetto’s Punisher and holy shit it’s so good. Love how they depict Frank Castle as a man of few words to the people that meet him and an unholy shadow of death to the criminal element.

Well here’s a fun flashback: in 2018 there was a small con hosting a lot of the Avengers: Infinity War cast, and Tom Holland and Anthony Mackie were there. So technically I’ve been in the same room as Spider-Man and Captain America.

Just finished watching SUPERGIRL! Let me get the good out of the way first: Milly Alcock is very, very good as Kara. She portrays someone who’s dealing with a lot of pain, and covers it in a lot of layers, but always comes off as compelling. Hats off.
